Scalpers, and Gilbert, and Cameron Crazies

This was the opening tip.
Notes from the Verizon Center's final session.
* Early this afternoon, Gilbert wandered into the Wizards' practice court, which has been turned into the media room, which is thus filled with pasty white people and popcorn and media guides and no basketball rims. I wasn't there at the time, but apparently he was carrying a basketball and looking to hoop, which was impossible, given the circumstances, although it would have been awesome to see him have a shooting contest with John Feinstein. Odds are 50-50 he winds up at the YMCA tonight.
* Definitely a seller's market outside for this game. One guy I saw was asking $250 each for four tickets that, I think, had a $175 or so face value. He was the only person I saw who was selling. Everyone else was asking for two. One guy literally asked me four different types if I was selling tickets. Most of the people looking to buy were either wearing West Virginia colors or camouflage.
* The crowd is definitely more gold than blue, although maybe not as much as I would have guessed. The anti-Duke folks definitely boo more and are more likely to be wearing football jerseys and/or replicas of dead animals, whereas the pro-Duke people seem to wear more face paint.
* Ed Hightower's toupee simply has to earn first-ballot entry into the basketball referee toupee hall of fame.

Gilbert showed up hoping WVU would once again pretend they didn't know an athlete had a pro career so he could put 100 on Duke.

I was right in front of that guy, he wasn't obnoxious at all. But he did quite down towards the end of the game.
