My seat.
The Georgia band is warming up. Four tubas. All brass. Plus the Xavier cheerleaders, taking photos of themselves. It's their Madness, too. Plus the refs are here, stretching. It's their Madness, too. Now comes the Xavier band, boasting only two tubas. Massive tuba imbalance. Although the X band does have a large cut-out of Drew Lavender, which is nice.
The last time an NCAA tourney game was played in this building, I sat one row behind and about 15 seats over and George Mason beat Connecticut. Among the questions I wish I had asked of Georgia yesterday: are you SEC guys inspired by those CAA chaps? And Dave Bliss, is it weird to be at the same site as Baylor?
There are dozens of Xavier fans and Georgia fans already in their seats, plus perhaps six Baylor fans, a sprinkling of Purdue fans, at least one West Virginia fan, and at least two Wizards jerseys, including an Arenas all-star joint.
The Post gets four front-row mid-court seats, which, not to brag, aren't that bad of a place from where to watch the first round of the tourney.
At 11:48, Georgia came out and the fans barked and the tubas started playing.
Oh, and the pre-game music? Joy and Pain by Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock. Great time to be a 31-year old white male right here.
