William & Mary Storms the Court
As some smart WaPo copy editor realized last night, it's impossible to make too many Tribe Called Quest references this week, with William & Mary--having lost six of its final seven regular season games--storming its way to the CAA final on the strength of three last-second shots. And so before we get to tonight's final against Doc Nix and George Mason, let's momentarily heel up, wheel up, bring it back, come rewind:
* With all the talk about Old Dominion Coach Blaine Taylor's mustache, we've been sadly remiss in discussing CAA coach of the year Tony Shaver's mustache. It's a darn good one.
* From the W&M student newspaper's live blog: "The Kaplan Krazies, the four-man group of high school students who are some of the College's most loyal, die-hard fans, nearly got kicked out of the student section. Fortunately, they've been permitted to stay."
Chances that I interview the Kaplan Krazies tonight? About 174 percent. Oh, and also from that live blog, W&M's pep band is reported to be the only CAA pep band that didn't go to the tourney. Doc Nix and the Green Machine will record a no-contest victory tonight.

Tony Shaver's mustache.
* The giddy leadership of Gheorghe: The Blog "is on the way back to Richmond to see if miracles really do happen." If miracles do happen, you know for sure that Richmond Coliseum would be among the most dreadful sites ever to be graced with a dash of heavenly interference.
* And yeah, it would appear the Kaplan Krazies and friends stormed the heck out of that floor after their semifinal win. My lonely quest to reserve the floor storming for NCAA tourney-clinching wins appears to have gone the way of Maryland's bubble chances. Thanks to the gang at Storming the Floor for the video.

i cannot believe that you picked W&M as your best bet in the Atlantic 11 challenge, followed by them winning 3 straight games in the last 10 seconds. that is a charmed life.

Yes - how many references to A Tribe Called Quest are you going to make, Steinbog?

How can I get a request in to ESPN before tonight asking for more coverage of Gunston?
Anyway, let it be known that I want more coverage of Gunston. Specifically Gunston DANCING. Specifically Gunston doing the Soulja Boy.

See you there tonight, Steinz. I'm rolling with the CAAZone posse, and I've been priveleged to be there for each of the Tribe's wins so far.

I graduated from W&M last May, and I've gotta admit that our run in the tournament has been unbelievable. Last year we finished with around 8-10 wins, and now this? In my four years at W&M we never had a winning season so its about time our luck changed. Tribe Pride is on a roll. Now if we could only get "Big" Gene Nichol back as school president.

Please note that I've posted "GO, MASON!" (yes, including the usually forgotten direct-address comma) just about every time I've been on this site, providing not-up-to-par pith.
I was supposed to be in Richmond this weekend but fell prey to the nasty flu-ness that's hit the DC Beltway area.
Needless to say: GO, MASON!
P.S. Great game against VCU, Tribe. Congrats.
