Bram Weinstein to ESPN

Bye Bram

Bram Weinstein, he of the "Covering the Redskins.....I'm Bram Weinstein!!!!!!!!" radio call, actually used to do television in Nebraska after he finished school (Springbrook/American). I didn't know that. But I guess that makes the news that he's leaving us for Bristol and the ESPN News Anchor chair less shocking. Or maybe not.

"No one's more surprised I got this job than me," Bram just told me in the Comcast SportsyNet green room. "When they said they wanted to hire me, I was like, 'Really?' I thought they were joking. Then I was like, 'Get the contract, I'm signing immediately.'"

What will we all miss most about Bram? The playful banter with Larry Michael? The failed attempts to keep Larry Michael tethered to some fragment of reality? The above average "Washington D.C. Funniest Sports Celebrity" routine? The karaoke duets with Lindsay Czarniak? The Covering the Redskins blog, with its trademark "Ok men..." sign off? Or the sense that a real actual journalist of some sort was working for Redskins Radio?

Bram said he wasn't necessarily looking to get out of radio, but the opportunity arose, etc. Will he miss D.C. and our endlessly captivating professional football franchise?

"Yes, actually," he said. "My professional life has revolved around the Redskins for 10 years now. When training camp rolls around and I'm not out there in shorts, there will be tears shed."

Bram's moving to Bristol and starting at ESPN on May 5. He plans to keep his blog going, under the same "Covering the Redskins" name, because he said he's not smart enough to know how to change the name. And he said one of his goals will be to drop a "Covering the Redskins" reference on air. Plus to say his name in an amusing manner.

"If I can't say my name funny," he pointed out," then what have I gained all these years?"

Is it Jewish tradition to sing karaoke on Easter Sunday?

Bram,
Congrats on your new ESPN gig. I'm glad you're finally able to leave the Snyder Radio job since that station is just awful. I thought you were great on WTEM, but since I can't stomach Snyder Radio, I've rarely heard you over the past few years. Best of luck in Bristol.

I have missed and will now continue to miss...

Uncle Morty
Wiggles the Monkey
Preakness infield broadcasts
NC State Pirate

and more...

Bram did a great job. Working for Synder didn't impact his objectivity in covering the team one bit. His willingness to offer constructive criticism when appropriate was refreshing. Although I felt that he was a little too hard on Norv at times (and Norv may be having the last laugh with a solid Chargers team) Bram made Snyder's in-house content much more enjoyable. He will be missed.

That "Redskins Radio" show at noon just went from almost unlistenable to completely unlistenable. If only Larry Michael was the one who found a job somewhere far, far away.

Congrats to Bram. He absolutely deserves this.

I watch the family of channels and I sometimes listen to the radio channel. That doesn't stop me from hating ESPN though. Get him to say hi to Sage for me.

Nobody can resist that whorish mouse's money.

It's so easy to say goodbye to someone who works for the Redskins.

I'm not sure a sentence that includes the phrase, "got a job with ESPN" should be followed by "Congratulations." "My condolences" sounds more appropriate.

he's gotta be better than Trey Wingo, right?

Why did I request he say hi to Sage for me like I know Sage?

Channel 21 misses Bram.

ESPN just keeps hiring worse and worse on-air talent...this guy is awful

Posted by: Jimmy | April 12, 2008 3:40 PM

I agree, Jimmy. Completely agree.

Terrible voice, horrid delivery, not clever at all.

In short, perfect for ESPN.

Oh, wait...they're putting him on TELEVISION? You have to be out of your MIND.

Bad move by Bram. I can't blame him. Who wouldn't take the money and run.

Bram's voice always reminded me of that little annoying brother with the high pitched voice. The louder he got the higher the pitch.

I loathed the times he filled in during the evening drive.

Good Luck Bram....
