Caps Reflect on Loss: The Video

Some notes from a very, very, very, very, very non-happy dressing room. Backstrom saying "I'm just empty?" We're talking existential despair here. If you'da asked typical Caps fans whether they'd be satisfied with an overtime Game 7 first-round loss back in those worst-in-the-league days, I think the answer woulda been a cheerful yes, but it sure felt like tragedy* last night.

(* Not, you know, real tragedy. Sports tragedy.Very mild sports tragedy.)

Honestly, if you make fun of the Caps locker room and laugh at Backstrom's despair, you probably shouldn't be writing a sports column or blog. It's apparent you've never played serious sports or fought for something so hard only to have it vanish in seconds, and then have a reporter shove a mic in your face and ask how it feels. Yes, there is tragedy in the world more meaningful than sports...hey, why don't we just remove the sports section completely from the paper if we're going to downplay a game 7 loss to just a very mild "aw shucks" moment.

The guys in that locker room deserve a whole lot more than your making fun of them for word choice.

Jeez, wasn't trying to make fun. I was serious; it was glum, and I understand why. I wrote the word "tragic," and then figured some anonymous commenter would ding me for implying a hockey game could be tragic, so I just tried to cover myself. Clearly I failed yet again.

Steinz, you're totally unqualified to write a sports blog. I think the Post needs to get that Ape fellow, with all his bad writing, dirty jokes, homophobia and NFL-centric silliness.

I've never heard Sergei talk before, but he doesn't have a very Russian accent.

Dan don't worry about these clowns.... You are who you are and people around here like you for that.
