Mystics Take Langhorne

Will Laura Harper be next? (By Toni L. Sandys - TWP)
With Crystal Langhorne projected to be a mid-first rounder, and the Mystics picking sixth, the stage was set for the dramatic selection of perhaps the most decorated player in Terps history, who will now slide a few miles downtown to play for an appreciative home crowd. I can only imagine the bedlam at the official draft party inside the Greene Turtle when Langhorne's name was announced. There's no bedlam quite like the first round of the WNBA draft bar-party local-kid-selection bedlam.
Of course, two of the Mystics' current stars are named Alana Beard and Monique Curry. Both went to Duke. What was it that Langhorne said about Duke last month? Oh yeah.
"It's Duke, come on now," she said, when asked why Terps fans were booing the Blue Devils. "It started with men's basketball. You know, everybody hates Duke, everyone. It's not just Maryland. Everybody does. It just festered and moved to our little program, too."
That ought to make for a fun welcome-to-the-team breakfast.

When will the Mystics raise a banner in the rafters touting their selection of Langhorne?

The bigger story is JMU's Tamera Young going to the Atlanta Dream as the #8 pick.

Hey Dan, why were you relegated only to "imagining" the bedlam at the Greene Turtle today when Lang's name was announced? You came to the draft party last year. What could have been more important for you this afternoon than being there, huh?
As for Lang and the Dookies on the Mystics, don't forget that Lang and her teammates beat Currie and her crowd for the Natty. Hope the draft today doesn't send Mo into a depression. :-)

Langhorne is an excellent selection by the Mystics, as is Lindsey Pluimer of UCLA with the second round pick. The primary area that the team needs to work on is rebounding, and both of these players can help.
The mock draft on WNBA.com predicted that the Mystics would take Matee Ajavon, the point guard from Rutgers. Langhorne is a better fit for the team because Nikki Blue, who was the Mystics' backup point guard last season, is ready to become the starter this year.
With these additions and a strong head coach in Tree Rollins, the Mystics should be able to make a run at the third playoff spot.
