Wiz-Cavs III: More Trash Talk

Covering the Wiz-Cavs build-up from a Chicago hotel room....

LeBron James: "I wanted to play someone else, but if we have to play somebody, I'm glad it's Washington."

Comment: I do not understand this.

Gilbert Arenas "Last Blog of Season" Report: I think everybody wants Cleveland in that first round. They've been a .500 team ever since they made that trade and everybody wants a chance at that matchup. We want Cleveland for our own reasons, we don't think they can beat us in the playoffs three years straight. It's hard to beat a team three years straight. We want to try our luck."

Comment: So he won't talk to the media in order to keep the hype machine down, but then he'll blog this?

Gilbert Arenas "Another Last Blog of Season" Report: "I'm still not talking to the media. There's nothing we need to talk about. I mean, I might podium talk after I hit a couple game winners ... But locker room talk is off limits. I don't want to bring out the hype machine right now. I'm laying low. I'll let DeShawn hype everything up. I'll leave that to DeShawn and LeBron.

"It's funny, those two don't play the same position, but DeShawn told Caron that he'll guard LeBron (sounds like a children's nursery school rhyme) so that Caron can rest his legs. DeShawn was like, "I'll run him around and play D on him and get the fouls so you can just go off on the other end." So we have our own little gimmicks we're brewing. With a team like the Cavaliers and a player like LeBron, all you need is distractions. We got to be Bush. We got to be Bush-league. We're having everybody talking about the war, when we just want to get the oil. We're Bushing it. That's all we're doing. We're trying distract LeBron over here while we try to get some wins over there. That's all we're doing."

Comment: So now he's ripping LeBron James and the president. What, he's got nothing for Tiger Woods and the Pope? And yeah, I'm just bitter that he doesn't talk to us any more.

LeBron James: "James agreed that Stevenson's comments added to the rivalry and said he won't address those comments again."

Comment:
Booooooooo.

Charles Barkley: "I think the Washington Wizards have got to be the dumbest team in the history of civilization."

Comment: Yeah, he's just bitter because Gilbert's taking on the Washington Times and the Prez.

LOL. OK, a few observations. Man, you *are* bitter. C'mon, don't go printing bad things about Gilbert -- you'll scare him away completely.

As to quoting Barkley on the intelligence of others . . . . I'm just not going there, LOL. Let's just say I find him amusing and entertaining.

"I wanted to play someone else, but if we have to play somebody, I'm glad it's Washington."

Possible thought process: Lebron begins to say what he really believes, that he'd rather play someone else, but then he worries that will make him look like a chicken, and so he masks the fact that he'd rather not play us and goes with saying he's "glad" its us.

My sign for the playoffs: "REFS!! LEBRON JUST WALKED AGAIN!! COULD YOU PLEASE CALL TRAVELLING ON HIM JUST ONCE IN YOUR LIFETIME?"

You know, what I don't understand is why Charles Barkley makes these assinine comments about the Wizards. Who on the Wiz organization put his panties in a bunch? I am praying with every thing that I have for the Wiz to beat Cleveland because I am SICK to death of the total disrepect the Wiz get around the league. I agree with the Warriors, Charles Barkley is a FAT ASS, air blowing, Lebron worshipping, MJ butt kissing idiot! GO WIZ!

I love Gilbert's blog entry.

"Knott called me a pansy, a diva ... can you even call a man a diva? Is that allowed?"

No, Gil, it's not! No one listens to Tom Knott. Seriously, man, no one focusses on that one shot. Whether you should have come up from the corner or not -- that's just one play.

And, word: that free throw with Lebron last year -- that was just one play too.

You have many plays, Gil, and we all know it. You do those many many plays, and I bet many many of them will be great, and we'll go all the way!

I wonder how many more thousands read Gil's blog than read Knott's column . . . .

"I wanted to play someone else, but if we have to play somebody, I'm glad it's Washington."

is George Orwell writing material for LeBron now?

"I wanted something else for my birthday, but if I had to receive something, I'm glad it was these argyle socks."

Diva
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A diva is a celebrated female singer such as Maria Callas, Jenny Lind, Nellie Melba, Rose Ponselle, Leontyne Price, Joan Sutherland or Renata Tebaldi.

However, the term is now also used to refer to an outstanding popular female performer of non-operatic works, such as Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Madonna, Patti Labelle, Cher, Tina Turner who are often referred to as divas due to their success and talent.

Also, some prominent women adored in gay male pop culture are referred to as divas, such as Taborah, Kathy Griffin, Joy Behar, and Joan Rivers.

The term was originally used to describe a woman of rare, outstanding talent. It derives from the Italian word 'diva' meaning "goddess" or "fine lady"[1]. TIME magazine observed in its October 21, 2002 issue: "By definition, a diva was originally used for great female opera singers, almost always sopranos."

In ballet, the equivalent of a diva is a prima ballerina assoluta.

If you can refer to a man as a prima donna then you can refer to a man as a diva. There is no difference.

Tom Knott is a putz.

I think Charles Barkley has to be the dumbest smart man in the history of civilization.

Posted by: B.A. | April 16, 2008 12:34 PM

Doesn't Tom Knott work for the Washington Star or something?

Posted by: Kev | April 16, 2008 1:51 PM

Charles is just mad his MVP didn't count for anything when he got destroyed by Jordan in the finals.

Posted by: JDP | April 16, 2008 2:16 PM

it's just not wise to try to rile lebron. he's constantly playing the victim anyway so his bum-chum refs call the game his way. ask Philly.

Posted by: at | April 16, 2008 2:28 PM

Thas' jus' trbl.

Posted by: Bob | April 16, 2008 2:38 PM

I wish ESPN would point out the 15 times a game that the Wizards (namely Gilbert and Jamison) got away with traveling two years ago. Or perhaps the 10 charge fouls that were clearly blocking fouls that kept LeBron in foul trouble and out of the game, and gave Washington the only 2 games they won that series.

Just because ESPN pointed out 2 traveling calls that went uncalled doesn't mean they shouldn't have emphasized the 3 blocking fouls that occurred before the travels and went uncalled. Of course, then the Wizards fans would have whined that the refs gave LeBron the game at the line...

Posted by: Truth | April 16, 2008 4:40 PM

wiz fans can keep talking but the same thing is going to happen as the last two. you cant beta us get over it. you suck in the playoffs

Posted by: | April 16, 2008 7:28 PM

Did someone really comment earlier that Barkley is a "Lebron-worshipper?" Charles has made a point to bash Lebron and call him overhyped and overrated. He only recently started giving him credit when he was forced to because Lebron is obviously one of the top 5 players in the league. Now, I'm no fan of Charles, but he has a very good point in calling the Wiz dumb. The LAST thing you want to do is antagonize Mr. James. He tends to be a rather destructive force when you anger him. The smart move would have been to keep your mouths shut and hope to catch the Cavs off guard. So much for that. Enjoy your couch for the 2nd round boys!

Posted by: 3 years in a row :( | April 16, 2008 10:14 PM

And by the way, if you'd like an interpretation of Lebron's comment, I believe the point he was trying to make is that he's become bored with dismissing the inferior Wiz from the postseason. He was hoping for some fresh meat to feast upon, but now he's forced to settle for leftovers.

Posted by: 3 years in a row :( | April 16, 2008 10:18 PM

If anyone's overhyped, it's Gilbert, and he's the one doing the hyping- "I mean, I might podium talk after I hit a couple game winners ..." Right Gil. Right.

The Cavs are average at best- and they'll still win in 5.

And by the way, Lebron hasn't gotten anywhere near the calls that MJ got when he was in the league. Is Lebron MJ? No. But he's getting there- and the calls still haven't come. He gets hammered all the time and the refs choke down their whistles. So quit whining about it Wiz fans.

I love seeing over-confidence shattered. Gil, you wanted the Cavs, and you got 'em.

This will be the only first round matchup worth watching in the East

I love wizard fans but I must say that Deshawn Stevenson takes the cake, not really the quickest cat on the best of days. Keep it up Deshawn-keep pulling on Superman's cape.

Posted by: Shaun Z | April 17, 2008 12:44 AM

Damn, Lebron is a man who puts his pants on one leg at a time like everyone else! Jeeze, you all are beginning to believe that "Witness" crap. OOOOh, the Wiz has shaken the beast and now should be in the corner shaking with fright. BS! Remember, David said he would beat Goliath and he did! Let's get ready to rumble! Barkley,Smarkley. He ain't the brightes bulb in the lamp and he has the temerity to be calling someone else dumb! Barkley is a joke and don't sleep on the Wiz!

Posted by: | April 17, 2008 8:58 AM

Oh yea, and Wiz fans, let's man up and be there in a sea of white, making noise and supporting our home team. I have tickets and I am wearing my white T with the Gold Arenas name and number in bold letters on it. Can't wait!

Posted by: | April 17, 2008 9:00 AM

ok so everyone seems to love to bash on james? well lets put it this way no matter what he will still be 2nd or 3rd best in the leauge and when he demolishes the wizards in 5 and all the wiz fans complain o they gave it to him, well no to be honest he did that himself, should not have antaginized him and maybe you would have had a chance, now your doomed, i mean you might as well just go home and sit on your couch and wathc the show from your house cause you are not goona do anything anyway

Posted by: . . . | April 17, 2008 9:38 AM

Charles Barkley often is no more than a "turrible knucklehead."

Posted by: Arlington Pimp | April 17, 2008 1:52 PM

I won't guarantee a cavs victory in the series. but I can't wait til lebron dunks on stevenson...its going to be a nasty one. can't wait for the poster, you know gil and maybe haywood would be standing there with that look of awe on their faces while stevenson has his eyes shut thinking to himself "I should have kept my f-ing mouth shut"

Posted by: kt - chicago | April 17, 2008 6:33 PM

"Lebron is obviously one of the top 5 players in the league"...

"no matter what he will still be 2nd or 3rd best in the league"...

It's not even close... if you give any GM the opportunity to pick any player for his team, I'd bet that 90% would pick Lebron...

Posted by: | April 22, 2008 12:08 PM

your team is joke guys, face up to it. 0-2, and all that trash-talk? sorry you guys aren't good enough to steal the late 80s pistons' act, but lebron will still beat you just like jordan beat them.

Posted by: | April 22, 2008 7:49 PM

NBA needs more stupid teams like the Wiz....it's so fun watching the pathetic losers talk trash and get SWEEPED by Lebron...just pray someone hacks ur blog and gets rid of it Gil lol
