Mets Act Like Little Boys

So let me get this straight. Baseball's much-bandied-about "Code" allows for the strategic placement of baseball bats around blow-up dolls, but not for players to cheer on the bench? Because the business of pulling on tight pants and bright socks and belly-accentuating tops and tossing around a baseball for the amusement of drunk office workers is such a serious, no-smiles, professional operation?
Two pieces of advice for Nelson "[The Nats] were cheerleading in the dugout like a bunch of softball girls" Figueroa:
1) If you're opposed to cheering, attempt not to give one of the worst-hiting teams in baseball a reason to cheer.
2) If you're opposed to fun, get a job selling insurance in Omaha and be done with it. I mean, dude, you play a game that's readily embraced by spastic five-year old kids. Boys even. Boys who often cheer. Like girls, apparently.
Even the Newsday beat writer got a bit grumpy, writing that "there's no question the Nats were out of line with their cheerleading from the dugout. I mean, chanting "Let's Go Austin!" is ridiculous," although he admitted Nelly might have overreacted. And to rub in salt in Nelson's boo-boos, Lastings Milledge gestured to the Nats dugout after a double and then explained the move thus: "You gotta have fun out here ... and I can do it here and nobody is going to give me crap. We have fun out there and that's the way it should be."
Well put, L-Millz. For the second time this month, we have a local team having fun and providing entertainment, and an opposing team--in the name of professionalism--acting like Dick Cheney ordering oatmeal at the opera.

have the Mets (or their fans) ever seen "Major League"? maybe not the most accurate representation of a baseball team, but remember the whole scene when the Indians are surging toward the pennant and they show the guys on the bench doing things like clapping in rhythm and crossing their legs in unison? or how about last year's Red Sox bullpen and their drumming? it's a long season and i can only imagine that it takes some creativity to keep the players into every game.
i guess being 3 games behind the Marlins has the Mets a little on edge this year.
also, i think Fremulon Insurance in Partridge, KS might be hiring.

As a fan, I'd rather see the opposing team celebrating harmlessly than jeering, talking s@*t, and acting like bad winners.
Actually, nah: I'd rather win the game outright.

Once again showing people take themselves waaay too seriously.
If you can't handle people cheering, get out of the game. And next time someone on the Mets hits a grand-slam, I fully expect him to stay sitting on his ass and not cheer since apparently that's what girls do.
He should be so lucky to be able to play nearly as well as the girls in the picture you have with this one. They go out, play hard, and *gasp* support each other -- and win.
