D.C. Sports Media Approval Ratings: Larry Michael

(2004 photo by John McDonnell - TWP)

Larry Michael is in many ways the face of the Redskins new media efforts, from hosting Redskins.com TV segments on the team's Web site (and other over-the-air Redskins TV projects) to spearheading a daily TV show (weekday afternoons on Comcast SportsyNet) to, most famously, leading the team's three-man radio broadcast crew.

Michael, 51, took over the play-by-play duties in 2004, in a decision announced by WJFK, replacing Frank Herzog, who had done games since 1979. Michael had already been involved with the Redskins broadcasts for the previous eight seasons. In 2005, he left his job as executive producer and senior vice president for sports at Westwood One to work for the Redskins. His official title is now Senior VP and Executive Producer of Media for the Washington Redskins.

The Maryland graduate grew up in Silver Spring and went to Northwood High School. Besides his Redskins gigs, Michael has worked as a Showtime Championship Boxing reporter (2001-2003), done NFL play-by-play for Westwood One (1989-2004), covered boxing for HBO and served as the play-by-play voice for George Washington University basketball. Michael has also hosted the Notre Dame pre-game Coaches Show on Westwood One, was the voice for EA Sports "Knockout Kings" video game and covered eight Olympics, 21 U.S. Open Championships, 12 Masters tournaments and 12 Super Bowls.

Bearing in mind that you have just two options, here's your chance to judge Larry Michael. Choose carefully, and offer explanation below. And while I haven't asked this before, given the potentially contentious circumstances, I'd ask you to please keep it civil.
