Morning Look: Wiz Draft History

Tonight, the Wizards will have a chance to add to their draft history, and a glorious history it is. The Wiz currently have four players on their roster whom they drafted themselves: Andray Blatche, Oleksiy Pecherov, Nick Young and Dominic McGuire, roughly speaking, the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th guys off the bench this past season.

Vlad Veremeenko, who might set an NBA record for use of the letter "e" in a last name, could still join these Wiz draftees. Devin Harris, the first-round pick in 2004, yielded Antawn Jamison.

Other than those names, your previous 10 Wizards draft picks include Peter John Ramos, Steve Blake, Jarvis Hayes, Juan Carlos Navarro, Rod Grizzard, Juan Dixon, Jared Jeffries, Kwame Brown, Mike Smith and Calvin Booth.

This year, though, will be different. Previous 18th picks in the draft include such budding stars as Gerald Green, J.R. Smith, David West and Oleksiy Pecherov. Our reporting has thus far indicated that Ernie Grunfeld will either trade up, trade down or keep the pick. Stay tuned.

The last picture with Kwame and Jordan...just brings back bad memories.

Bad memories yes, but a GREAT return in Caron Butler!

In fairness, while it does sound a little uninformative to report that the Wizards will move up, move down, or use their 18th pick themselves, I think what Ivan means to say is that he doesn't think they will trade the pick away completely, which is another option for Ernie Grunfeld and the team...

My ideal starting lineup: Elton Brand, Twan, Caron, Gil, and Nick Young...dump Deshawn and Etan.

Sub in Brenda and Blatche...we can compete with that. The East is getting formidable..we need to step it up.

How do you propose we get Elton Brand and keep Twan and Gil? Abe won't spend a penny over the luxury tax cap.

Uhh....David West IS a star.

And Gerald Green's bud has just about wilted away.

Other 18 picks include:

* Q-Rich
* World Champ James Posey
* The late, great Theo Ratliff
* Former black-eye supporter, Tracy Murray
* B.J. Armstrong, sports agent
* Mark, 'When Will I Be A Coach' Jackson

But let's hope this doesn't turn out like another former 18 pick.....Luther Wright.

man i wish we still had Dixon around

Juan Dixon is available. The question is do the Wiz want him? And Jarvis is available too.
