Durant Goes Off, and Rhyming Ovechkin
Is it possible that I'm still off the clock? I mean, just how lazy are bloggers, exactly?
(Seriously, this slowness is partially because of the impending Olympics timesuck, and partially because if someone offers to let you not work and still get paid, you should probably say "yes thanks." Full-on bogging returns Sunday morning for Skins camp. In the meantime....)
Kevin Durant goes off for 60 in a Goodman League game at Barry Farms. Lawrence Moten and Tony Bethel and assorted others were also playing. Sounds, um, cool. Word is Durant is playing again tonight. If you never follow my links, make an exception and read this one. (D.C. Metro Sports)
What rhymes with Alex Ovechkin? In rap style? Click here to find out. (Japers' Rink)
Bruce Boudreau seems like a nice guy. (John Walton Hockey)
Next weekend's Crystal City Twilighter has, you guessed it, a Fred Smoot's Smack feature, called the "One Mile Smack Down!." Like I said, you guessed it. "Think you can throw the smack down? The first male and female runner to the one mile mark will win $80! Winners will be determined by gun time and must finish the race! A race official will be posted at the one mile mark and will be the final judge in who wins the One Mile Smack Down! Brought to you by Smack Energy Bar." Clearly I need to hire Smack's marketer to get some Sports Bog product placement in this town.
And if you haven't been reading the "What's Smackin' " blog, you might want to start. (Fred Smoot's Smack)
Will this Cleveland-D.C. hoops rivalry never end? Now a Cleveland media writer is reporting that the Cavs beat writer at the Plain Dealer got demoted for writing a game story in the Washington Times when he was supposed to be on assignment. I believe this was just a plot hatched by Tom Knott to get back at Cleveland for treating us so rudely. (via Waiting for Next Year)
New city rivalry, by the way. I never mentioned Gilbert's blog and his Milwaukee hatred, but it's nice to see Milwaukee's best fighting back. Ninth best city for young professionals. Who knew? Waiting for Gilbert's retraction.
Sorry for the late notice, but Lindsay Czarniak bobblehead night at the Baysox was changed to last night. But good news! "The Baysox will distribute a limited number of Czarniak bobble head collectibles on the originally scheduled giveaway date of Monday, July 21 when the Baysox take on the Harrisburg Senators at 7:05 pm."
The very popular Dave Johnson says talk of a Redskins stadium in D.C. is a slap in the face for D.C. United. (Via Behind the Badge)

Dan,
This is completely off topic but what's up with Christian Swezey's "Fastest Blog on Two Feet" lacrosse blog with promised next day review of John Hopkins? Snarky posts about timeliness are not being accepted. Thanks.

Tony Bethel was there?
Only God Shammgod or Victor Page would have shocked me more.

You know it's sooo funny because just last Friday ago, I got a phone call from (I guess) my new Milwaukee Bucks ticket sales rep; of course he wanted to sale me some tickets. After his little sales pitch, I told him that I really only attend games when the "Wizards are here." He's like "why? You a Wizards fan? I gave him a proud "YES!" Then he's like:
"You like Caron?"
"Ooo yeah!"
"You like Gilbert Arenas?"
"Of course!"
So basically what was (originally) a sales pitch damn-near turned into a "Wizards conversion" courtesy of me.
....Then he updates his blog... and bashes Milwaukee! Wonder what my Bucks rep think of me now (?)....Like I said, it's not the best place but it IS "home" to me. I don't know the reasoning behind "players not liking it here," but I sure like the fact that my little sister asks me to proof-read her school papers as opposed to where the best clubs/bars are...

so does this mean Durant has finally hit the weight room?

I met Coach Boudreau at a restaurant in Arlington a couple of months ago and he was as nice and as courteous as he could be. As he was there with his family, I waited until they were leaving so as not to disturb their dinner. He was great. The Caps are very fortunate indeed.

"slap in the face"?
Come on. If DC finances another stadium, shouldnt it at least be for a team the public cares about?

Dan,
You should sponsor a contest to see who can make the most inappropriate jokes about the "Lindsay Czarniak Bobblehead."
Easy product placement for the Bog, supporting a concept by a minor league team, it seems like a perfect fit.

A Hardwick, Sweze left the paper to work for InsideLacrosse. He posted the Hopkins thing there. I believe TFBO2F is no more, which is why all your collegiate lacrosse comments should go in this thread right here until further notice.

Sixty points! Too bad Durant's going to be stuck in OKC the next couple of years instead of Seattle -- that would have been a rekindled rivalry with the Trail Blazers if the Sonics had stayed put. Now they'll just compete with Big 12 football.
