Morning Look: Colt Brennan Plays the Ukulele
On the first morning of the first week of Colt Brennan's first NFL season, the Hawaiians came out. The one group I spent time with included several out of towners from Hagerstown and Carroll County who had woken up at 4 in the morning to get to Ashburn on time, a pair of guys in green Hawaii shirts, and a pair of women wearing Redskins No. 5s.
Some of them were repping the Hawaii State Society of Washington D.C., which, wouldn't you know, has already held a backyard reception welcoming Colt to the District, in combination with the Hawaii Alumni Association. You know, pot luck meal, Redskins logos, leis, a ukulele performance, convincing the the rookie QB to get behind the microphone and rock a few Hawaiian tunes, handing him a ukulele and getting him to strum. The usual deal for NFL rookies.
"He was faking it," they admitted of the musical portion of the celebration, but still, as a proud ukulele owner, respect to Colt for the effort.
Lori Obispo of Potomac Falls (and previously of Mililani, Hawaii), one of the organizers, was wearing a Brennan jersey that she bought at Dulles Town Center. "Oh, you're the one," Colt joked when he signed it at the reception. But based on the number of comments from Hawaii fans following every single Internet mention of Colt Brennan, I'm thinking she's not the only one. Dude has fans.
After the first practice, he spent a good bit of time with the Hawaiian delegation, posing for photos for basically all of them and indulging in plenty of island talk. He told me after that he hoped he hadn't missed any other Warrior fans in the crowd. We better get some electric tailgate ukulele concerts in the FedEx lots out of this draft pick.
