Traveling Tony, Redux

Fresh from a four-day culinary vacation in Iceland (no word on whether he dined on that Icelandic delicacy, rotten shark), Mayor Anthony A. Williams (D) is already planning his next big trip: a 19-day jaunt to Africa.

The "cultural and trade mission," set for May, is scheduled to include stops in South Africa, Ghana and Senegal. The mayor hopes to take a 55-member delegation of business, government and community leaders, put them up at four- and five-star hotels and take them on a variety of deluxe weekend sidetrips, including a two-night visit to a South African game park where the luxury safari tents rent for up to $975 per person per night.

How to pay for it all? No worries. The mayor has asked corporate donors to pony up $25,000 or $40,000 to join him on the trip, his first official visit to the continent. You can read more in today's Post.

His first visit to the 'continent' you say? Just what continent might that be, exactly?

the continent of, um, africa. or did you skip right over the first paragraph?

Is this the Lori Montgomery from the Free Press?

Lori Montgomery is officially my favorite dc wire blogger. Two responses, both timely and both appropriately snarky.

Also, the mayor's travel is an ongoing, and important story. So she's right on the substance, too.

And if you ask how I square this with my last post, over on Tuesday, under "Travelling Tony" I say I'm just giving Lori her props for gracefully backing off that "we are not bloggers" limb she previously staked out.

and no, mark, post policy forbids us from even noticing off-color remarks, much less responding to them.

ARRRGH

Mark's first comment ought not to have been deleted.

Lori's rejoinder makes no sense without it and the most important part of this thread --- my insightful observation about 2 timely snarky responses --- becomes unintelligible without the item Lori's first response responded to.

I'm not trying to be hard on you.

But you shouldn't have disappeared the 1st posting.

Several other postings stood on the framework erected on that posting. If you delete it, everything becomes F.U.B.A.R. (Which stands for "fouled up beyond recognition".)

Deleting the aforementioned erection was a boner. (Meaning an error, not meaning the condition that led to the initial deletion.)
