The Outing Blogger

Well here's something that doesn't happen every day. A Post reporter writes about a controversial subject/figure, and the individual involved (apparently) thanks the reporter for getting it right. Jose Antonio Vargas wrote about Mike Rogers today, saying the Capitol Hill blogger has been a "feared one-man machine, 'outing,' he says, nearly three dozen senior political and congressional staffers, White House aides and, most damagingly, Congress members on his blog." His targets have included Idaho Sen. Larry Craig, who announced his resignation Saturday after the Minneapolis airport incident that has been the subject of nonstop television analysis. The article has generated a mostly intelligent and thoughtful conversation, which doesn't always occur in these precincts. Most but not all of the comments so far are supportive of Rogers.

The first comment comes from MikeRogersDC , presumably the subject of the article, who wrote, "Mr. Vargas,
Thank you for a very fair an balance article. I greatly appreciate the care you took to tell my complete story and to present this issue in an objective way..."

hairguy01 warned, "Good luck Mr. Rogers, and watch your back."

teshub43 asked, "...While gay Republicans must publicly disavow their own and others' homosexuality, how much could they/would they/might they wish to advance the gay agenda without fanfare outside of CNN televised votes and the like? Why shoot those who are, at least privately, closest to your own viewpoint?"

But ayzee said, "Mr. Rodgers' work is at times cruel, but necessary."

dennis1, quoting Rogers when he said in the article, 'If you're a closeted Democrat or Republican and you don't bash gays or vote against gay rights to gain political points, I won't out you', said "How much more fair can he get? It's not any person's sexual orientation that matters, but their personal integrity..."

But not all were complimentary. wplyler, who avoids punctuation, said, "One word for Rogers
Blackmailer
Motives are not important. Its the act itself."

from Schmitz Blitz: schmitzblitz.wordpress.com

I am somewhat conflicted about the tactics of Rogers. The process of accepting and disclosing one's gayness is very stressful and scary-you have to worry about rejection from the people you care about the most, and begin to deal with the changes that come with being identified as a gay American. When someone else outs you, you loose control over this very difficult process, and it adds to the emotional turmoil.

What's more, Rogers' tactics create a new sort of McCarthyism targeting gays. It makes me somewhat uncomfortable to see again this kind of a witch hunt going on within the walls of our government.

Those concerns noted, I ultimately support the outing of anti-gay politicians. These politicians take their own shame and self-hatred over being gay out on open gays who just want to live their lives with dignity (as opposed to finding sexual fulfillment through secret trysts in public restrooms and parks). To me, using your democratically elected office as a closet is an abuse of power, and we need people like Rogers to expose that.

Corndog's man in the can, Republi-can Senator Larry E. Craig is a follower of the David Vitter School of Servicing the Public but at least Craig didn't have to pay for it. Vitter's wife has vowed to castrate the worm but Senator David Vitter must not be allowed to continue to soil the US Senate. Can Corndog fill in the crack until there is a replacement? And like David Vitter and many Republi-cans, Craig's excessively wide stance claiming that he was a champion of family values is false. He was a champion of Bush Family values; Big difference. No matter how many children Mark Foley and his Bushie cronies claim to be "protecting", you should not believe Republi-can propaganda about Republi-cans' so-called "morality". His stance is so wide that he pleasures the Gun Perverts of America with Cho and even serves on The Board of Directors of the National Gun-Pervert Association and has gained a national reputation as a stalwart against keeping America clean while Dirty Bush soils the White House with Karl Rove's intern semen and his own children.

No Corndogs were eaten in the making of this comment. But the demon spawn of Karl Rove's intern has stained not only the White House and Bush's own children but Rovehos continue to spawn, blossoming like turds. And Warner is leaving and Vitter is staying? That's not right. Senator Vitter should also be pushed out like a loaf of Turdblossom. Corndog's man in the can, Republi-can Senator Larry E. Craig is a follower of the David Vitter School of Servicing the Public but at least Craig didn't have to pay for it. Give this Bushie a presidential medal of freedom! While the Singing Senators were playing with children, the Bushes protected Senator Mark Foley (Republican, Florida) and enjoyed a sausage tasting with Bush White House spiritual leader Pastor Ted Haggard at prayer breakfast - while Bush simultaneously forced millions of Iraqi women and children into David Vitter-style prostitution and anal human trafficking but Vitter is still sitting in the Senate with his thousands of wasteful no-bid Republi-can pork barrel sprawl industry earmarks. Senator Vitter (Republican - The State Formerly Containing New Orleans) followed Neil Bush's example of Bush Family values. Bushy Bob Allen (Republican, Florida) is not only another RPOF backroom insider, he is also another Florida Republican who did it like they do on the Discovery Channel and Bushie Republican Senator Larry E. Craig certainly fits tightly in Bush's loyal family. But Senator Vitter was in bed with the Singing Senators in humping the American people and he continues to stand behind Singing Senator Trent Lott in the Senate and push his pork through as hard as he can. So now we know what made the Singing Senators sing!

"Let the eagle soar...
