Rumsfeld's Enemy: It's Us
Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld delivered a fire-and-brimstone speech at the American Legion's annual convention yesterday -- after acknowledging young soldiers serving in Iraq and giving the boy scouts a shout-out, the secretary wove an elaborate picture of an enemy made up of terrorists, morally misguided Westerners, disagreeable military strategists, and a cynical news media.
Rumsfeld stated there could be no appeasing the enemy and any "any moral or intellectual confusion about who and what is right or wrong can weaken the ability of free societies to persevere."
The "who" Rumsfeld is talking about is himself.
Rumsfeld is the "who" that is right, and everyone who disagrees is not only wrong, but a danger to freedom.
Within minutes of the conclusion of Rumsfeld's speech yesterday, I received an e-mail from Thayer C. Scott, the secretary's speechwriter, serving up talking points.
The Defense Department then took the unusual step, usually reserved for its broadsides against Seymour Hersh of the New Yorker, of issuing a statement saying that the Associated Press coverage of Rumsfeld's Salt Lake City remarks mischaracterized them.
Either Rumsfeld has delivered one of the most important speeches of the modern era, or he's gone crazy.
I think the latter, not just because I think the secretary is wrong on his intellectual characterization of terrorism, and not just because he is wrong about the media and its intentions, and not because he is so pugnacious, or because he has been wrong so many times before.
Rumsfeld is so wrong about America. His use of World War I history and the specter of fascism and appeasement, and his argument about moral weakness or even treason in any who oppose him, is not only polarizing but ineffective in provoking debate and discussion about the proper course this country must take to "fight" terrorism.
This is not the first time that Rumsfeld has shown himself to be so out of touch, so contemptuous of America. Rumsfeld as secretary of defense has displayed a contempt from long before 9/11 for anyone who disagrees with him, particularly in his initial wars against those in the uniformed military.
Moreover, Rumsfeld's declaration of war yesterday follows from his basic view that the Defense Department has to do it all: He has created an intelligence bureaucracy because he is distrustful and contemptuous of the CIA and all others. He has built up a secret army and covert capabilities in special operations forces because he wants to control and to rely only upon his own warriors. He has created a homeland security apparatus that looks over the shoulder of the Department of Homeland Security and is the ultimate arbiter of security. He has created his own FBI in the Counterintelligence Field Activity (CIFA), and fought to ensure that the NSA stays under Pentagon control. He has created his own law and his own human rights policy. He has subverted Congress through unexamined supplemental budgets and super-secret programs.
Even as a military strategist, Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld pushed a losing strategy in Afghanistan. This is not just because he went to war with an initially small force. After all, the war against the Taliban and al Qaeda began just weeks after 9/11 and that was what could be mobilized in that short period. The tragic error was that Rumsfeld continued to think that the terrorist threat existed in the form of a small army to be routed by his fabulous "transformed" warriors.
It is Rumsfeld who declared "mission accomplished" long before President Bush stepped on to the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln. Rumsfeld has been wrong in fighting and too quick to declare victory thereafter.
Rumsfeld declared victory in Afghanistan, in addition, because he was twitching to move on to the next enemy, and the next and the next. But even when the weaknesses and problems became apparent about how the Afghanistan war had been fought, Rumsfeld still pushed an identical military strategy in Iraq, brushing aside any criticism as naïve and appeasing and out of touch with the new gathering storm of weapons of mass destruction.
And even as Iraq has become one of the biggest hornets' nests in history, the secretary has convinced himself over and over that progress is being made and victory is just around the corner. America, Rumsfeld says, is not to blame, conflating a just war with a preemptive American strike. America is not to blame and therefore Rumsfeld is not to blame: no missteps, no errors of judgment. The secretary just wants his soldiers to believe now that he anticipated all along that the enemy was totalitarian and fascist and that Iraq was part of the big plan.
If I were the conspiratorial type, I'd say Rumsfeld was a particular menace to America because in his view of a monolithic and totalitarian terrorist enemy, and in his analysis of the weakness of American society, he can only come to the messianic conclusion that he indeed needs to takeover the country in order to save it. And this might even be worth speculating about were it the case that Rumsfeld reflected the views of those in the military leadership, or were it the case that Rumsfeld could actually engineer such a coup.
But alas, the secretary would get the intelligence wrong, employ too few troops and send tank columns on thunder runs through Manhattan and Hollywood, prematurely declaring victory and then being befuddled about the American desire to recover and preserve its way of life, which is not the Rumsfeld way.
"Can we truly afford to return to the destructive view that America -- not the enemy -- is the real source of the world’s troubles?," Rumsfeld asked yesterday.
This has got an easy answer: World troubles? Rumsfeld is the source of troubles much closer to home.

A Force for Good
By DONALD H. RUMSFELD
September 11, 2006; Page A14
We remember where we were that day.
At 9:38 a.m., the entire Pentagon shook. I went outside and saw the horrific face of war in the 21st century. Those present could feel the heat of the flames and smell the burning jet fuel -- all that remained of American Airlines flight 77.
Destruction surrounded us: smoldering rubble, twisted steel, victims in agony.
* * *
Last week, President Bush greeted the families of September 11 victims in the East Room of the White House and told them about the efforts to bring to justice those who attacked our nation -- and those who supported them. He said, "The families of those murdered that day have waited patiently for justice. . . . They should have to wait no longer." He announced that 14 high-level terrorists, including the man referred to as the mastermind of the attacks, have been transferred to the Department of Defense and incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay. There they will be treated humanely -- though their victims were not -- and, if and when the necessary legislation is passed by the Congress, prosecuted for their crimes, in accordance with law.
President Bush has reminded us that this enemy is still seeking new ways to attack us. He told us about captured terrorists who provided key information about planned attacks on buildings here in the U.S., and about al Qaeda's efforts to obtain biological weapons. Information the interrogators received from these terrorists has led to the capture of other terrorists, who have in turn led us to still more.
Yet, even with these victories in the war, President Bush reminded us that it is important to understand the nature of this enemy, and what it is seeking to do. The extremist movement that threatens us is not a reactionary force -- it actively looks for opportunities to acquire new and deadlier weapons, to destabilize governments, and to create discord among our allies and within our own country.
This enemy has made its immediate strategy clear in public announcements and in captured documents: to undermine the Coalition effort in Iraq, drive our forces out, and then use that nation as a base from which to destabilize the surrounding nations. They seek to extend a hoped-for victory in Iraq to a broad part of the Middle East and even parts of Europe and Asia -- to restore an ancient caliphate.
Iraq is the linchpin in their effort. Osama bin Laden calls Iraq the "epicenter" of this war, and he believes that "America is prepared to wage easy wars but not prepared to fight long and bitter wars." When Gen. Abizaid, commander of Central Command, was asked what effect pulling out of Iraq would have, he said the extremists would become "emboldened, empowered, more aggressive." They will turn whatever part of Iraq they can control into a safe haven for terrorists, just as Afghanistan was before September 11. They likely will attract still more recruits, inspired by their "victory" over the West.
To stop them in Iraq, our country has sent our finest young people -- all volunteers -- to help the Iraqis defeat the terrorists seeking to control the region. And while our military tactics, techniques and procedures have adapted as the enemy has changed its tactics, the guiding principle of the overall military strategy remains constant -- namely, to empower the Iraqi people to defend, govern and rebuild their own country. Extremists know that war and anarchy are their friends -- peace and order their enemies.
There are many challenges ahead in this young century: Among others, Iran's nuclear aspirations, North Korea and the proliferation of dangerous weapons, and the need to build on recent progress in missile defense.
All this while fighting a war in the media on a global stage. As I recently mentioned in remarks to the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, everyone is watching: the enemies, their supporters, their potential supporters, our allies and our potential allies. In this very public battle for hearts and minds, we must be as confident in the rightness of our cause as the enemy is in its evil purpose. We cannot allow the world to forget that America, though imperfect, is a force for good in the world.
Mr. Rumsfeld is secretary of defense.

The fascists are coming, the fascists are coming! The new campaign slogan from the cons for the midterm elections. I first heard it from several Bush Administration officials. Then an email was released by right wing groups that was written by a Dr. Chung who goes thought this, not so well thought out, explanation of how our future is threatened by the imminently Muslim fascists. Now Bush, Rummy, and Cheney are using the Fascist "key word". Today on C-span, an author and Bush supporter, named Tammy Bruce drops the fascist key word several times about the war in Iraq and terrorism. Ms. Bruce even goes so far as to state that liberals are fascists! Tammy Bruce, read this, YOU'RE AN IDIOT.
Seems a little rehearsed to me, perhaps a little Rovian in nature. Terrorism just doesn't generate the popular support and votes for the cons like it used to. So why not resurrect the Fascists from WWII? I'm confused, aren't the Fascist cons also, right wingers, conservatives, neo-cons?

Lee,
You forgot the binder, Kissinger's NSA#200 strategem which to this day was never signed out of US policy since it was put into practice quietly by Gerald Ford.
This in loose terms for those wondering what mild mannered (lol) Kissinger had to say is that he recommended in flowery words that a billion inhabitants of this planet must die in order to preserve America's access to the dwindling resources, obviously the initial aid packages for countries who legalised abortion and foisted family planning on people hasn't worked too well. If you read later on in the report it does cover more "direct" actions and a lot of that stuff is still untouchable so I imagine it may read something not so good.
When people say to me "Its inconceivable that the US government would commit 9/11..." I always point them to Operation Northwoods and those in here that are diehard non believers should take a read of that little op they wanted to plan, it was approved by the President, it was agreed to and provisioned for by the Chiefs of Staff in ALL military branches and it was a massive false flag op to bring the American people around to hating the Cubans and demanding war against them.
Operation Northwoods was a plan that involved US personnel planting bombs in US cities with "Made in Cuba" stamped all over them, it also involved flying planes into major US landmarks with the last words on the radio to link Cuba to it as well, this was a plan to commit terrorism AGAINST the US people BY the US government.
And today, we look back and see the same stuff going on, Bush was going to fly drones painted in UN colours to trick the world into thinking Iran and Iraq had committed atrocity, even the Vietnam war was started on such a false flag op by "blowing up" a US Navy ship and claiming it was the Vietnamese.
When are the Americans going to wake up to what is going on...?
These are not spin, not PR stunts, these are criminal lies and behaviours.
Bush and Blair harp on about law and order etc. but to be honest, as a citizen, I would now hold that sacred contract well and truly null and void, how can they preach about not breaking the law when they break the law and many many people die, more lose their freedoms and all the time they get their fat payouts and we get crushed in the process.
So balls to Bush, balls to Blair, I ain't going to put up with it, justice is black and white, not malleable to suit their needs, democracy is the same as is truth and freedom, you either have them or you don't.
Lets remember that Germany claimed preemption in regards to invading Norway and Denmark and was ruled against in Nuremburg, why is it proving so hard to bring about a simple to prove case using the Norway precedent against Bush and Rumsfeld, Cheney et al? The legal precedent is sitting there staring us in the face and no one will make a move...
And the problem with the left leaning people is that they are traditionally soft in approach, if it were the right wings being crushed there would be war on the streets, too much acceptance by far... by all.
Get tough and push back, hard!

That reminded me of Richard Clarke's recounting of what Rumsfeld said during a high level meeting after 911. You can read it in his book or read about it at this website where he was interviewed:
http://www.slumdance.com/blogs/brian_flemming/archives/000822.html
Here is what Clarke recounts:
"Well Rumsfeld was saying that we needed to bomb Iraq and we all said, 'No no, al Qaeda is in Afghanistan. We need to bomb Afghanistan.' Rumsfeld said, 'There aren't any good targets in Afghanistan and there are lots of good targets in Iraq.' I said, 'Well there are lots of good targets in lots of places but Iraq had nothing to with it.'"
So anything Rummy says about bombing rocks is about up to par with that. Why is Rummy still there? Why is Bush still there. Historians will wonder why the American people fiddled during Bush's destruction of America.

PRISON PLANET,
I was interested in your points until you started saying some pretty improbable things, such as
"From Wired News, 'Israel is reportedly developing a biological weapon that would harm Arabs while leaving Jews unaffected, according to a report in London's Sunday Times.' "
Now I have a biological background and would find something like that a very hard thing to do. Jews and Arabs are very closely related genetically. In fact, all of humanity is only separated by 2000 generations of evolution, which fruit flys accomplish in 40 years, not much time for lots of changes. The biological differences among us are very very small. Any bug developed to kill Arabs would likely kill Jews and anyone else for that matter.
But it wasn't just that that cause me to decide your statements were questionable. You go on to say:
"Ahmadinejad never militarily threatened to "wipe Israel off the map," this is firstly a gross mistranslation and it is also taken completely out of context. Ahmadinejad called for the future end of the political system of Zionism, not to ethnically cleanse an entire country."
So I decide to Google the statement and what comes up but no other than Al Jazeera with the quote which you say he never said. Here's what they quote:
"The establishment of the Zionist regime was a move by the world oppressor against the Islamic world. The skirmishes in the occupied land are part of a war of destiny. The outcome of hundreds of years of war will be defined in Palestinian land. As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map,"
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/15E6BF77-6F91-46EE-A4B5-A3CE0E9957EA.htm
So, how is anyone supposed to trust anything you say PRISON PLANET?

Does anyone remember prior to the beginning of the Iraq war, Rumsfeld was on one of the Sunday talk shows promoting the the impending invasion. One of his justifications was that our efforts in Afghanistan were tapped out because, according to Rumsfeld, "You don't get far bombing rocks". I found that way of thinking so disturbing then and, with the benefit of perspective, profounding disturbing now.

The military-industrial complex is gearing up to ethnically cleanse the entire middle east in a genocidal purge that will be a curtain raiser for world war three as preparations for a nuclear air strike on Iran remain on stand-by absent only the monolithic staged terror attack or false-flag provocation that will justify them.
Armed Forces Journal, a mouthpiece for the military-industrial complex, recently carried a strategy plan for completely redrawing the borders of the Middle East written by retired Major Ralph Peters.
Peters lambastes the Neo-Cons for not having stamped enough influence (or chaos) on the middle east and calls for the use of genocide in realizing the Neo-Fascist's dream of a completely reinvented Middle East run by the same cabal currently responsible for untold war crimes In Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon.
"Oh, and one other dirty little secret from 5,000 years of history," writes Peters, "Ethnic cleansing works."
His twisted justification is that major crises around the globe are converging and that a massive economic crash is set to occur in 2008. Two of those converging disasters are listed as global warming and peak oil - which as we have exhaustively documented are monumental con jobs manufactured out of thin air to justify increased control over the personal lives of Westerners, feudalism, and expansion of empire.
An economic collapse doesn't worry the families that own the Federal Reserve and America because they will be the only ones to benefit from it.
The ten major shareholders of the Federal Reserve are as follows.
Rothschild: London and Berlin; Lazard Bros: Paris; Israel Seiff: Italy; Kuhn- Loeb Company: Germany; Warburg: Hamburg and Amsterdam; Lehman Bros; New York; Goldman and Sachs: New York; Rockefeller: New York.
The endless drumbeat of propaganda tells us that it is Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who advocates genocide, yet scratch beneath the surface and the real protagonists of a vampiric holocaust to ethnically cleanse the middle east of Arabs are the US and Israeli Neo-Fascist crime syndicates that have hijacked our governments.
The megalomaniacs that control Israel wish to live in a world largely devoid of Muslims or Persians and they have embarked on a hundred year plus mission of ethnic cleansing to wipe them from the globe. The blitzkrieg of Lebanon is part of this process.
Race-specific bio-weapons have already been developed for this purpose.
From Wired News,
"Israel is reportedly developing a biological weapon that would harm Arabs while leaving Jews unaffected, according to a report in London's Sunday Times."
"The report, citing Israeli military and western intelligence sources, says that scientists are trying to identify distinctive genes carried by Arabs to create a genetically modified bacterium or virus."
"The "ethno-bomb" program is based at Israel's Nes Tziyona research facility. Scientists are trying to use viruses and bacteria to alter DNA inside living cells and attack only those cells bearing Arabic genes."
Imagine if plans were unearthed detailing a program on behalf of Kim Jong-il or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to create an ethno-bomb to wipe out Jews or caucasians. How would Israel and the United States react?
Only Israel is allowed to be nuclear-armed, violate dozens of UN treaties, use chemical weapons on civilians, and construct horrific policies of ethnic cleansing.
Israel have made a pact to carry out this agenda in league with the Neo-Cons, and above them the Globalists, whose desire is also world population reduction and complete full spectrum domination and control over all countries and near-Earth space itself.
All these facets are openly discussed by the elite in their own public documents.
"...advanced forms of biological warfare that can target specific genotypes may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool."
Who wrote these words in their own strategy document? The Nazis? The regime of Pol Pot?
No, it was Paul Wolfowitz, William Kristol and the rest of the Neo-Fascist collaborators that formed the PNAC! As manufactured terror alerts, magnified turmoil in the Middle East, and dire proclamations that doomsday is approaching all converge at the end of the summer of 2006, the twist in the story is likely to be a massive staged terror attack that will smother any remaining voices of dissent and once again leave America transfixed in an orgy of militarism, paranoia and fear.
The Israeli bombardment of Lebanon is the next escalation of a conflict that is being orchestrated according to a set roadmap that leads directly to World War Three.
Israel, the United States and Great Britain have been caught red-handed on numerous occasions staging terror attacks and false flag provocations in the Middle East for over 50 years.
The next big provocation is intended to prod Iran into launching what will be presented by the world's media as a pre-emptive action, unjustified by any US or Israeli intervention and used as war propaganda to mandate nuclear air strikes to oust Ahmadinejad's regime.
Ahmadinejad never militarily threatened to "wipe Israel off the map," this is firstly a gross mistranslation and it is also taken completely out of context. Ahmadinejad called for the future end of the political system of Zionism, not to ethnically cleanse an entire country. In addition, earlier this week Ahmadinejad said on record that Iran "was no threat to Israel or any nation," but you won't hear Fox news repeating that particular quote every 5 minutes, because it doesn't correlate with the "Mad Mahmoud" image that the Neo-Fascists are trying to construct to justify their next act of bloodletting.
If there is some kind of staged attack in the US then as always we will look at who has the capability and the motive to pull it off - especially in light of the fact that Dick Cheney's USSTRATCOM contingency plan calls for attacking Iran in the immediate aftermath of a 'second 9/11' - no matter who is behind it!!!

The problem is NOT Bush el. al. but the American people who put him there, twice. What so often happens is that people vote for a republican that backs a republican president. If you want to change the way Bush is doing his job you do not vote in a republican who will support a republican majority and thus the republican president. This is why there are NO congrsssional investigations going on into the current mess and current law breaking by this administration. Those of you who understand Bush needs to be held accountable need to vote OUT your local republican congressman and senator. It does not matter how good they are representing your local state. They support this administration, period. There has to be some non-republicans who can be just as good at representing you. My feeling is the republican party has sunk itself and no longer deserves a second look from the people of America. First Watergate, then Iran/Contra and now this mess. Enough is enough. Look at all the non-republcans and make a choice, but do not vote for a republican or you vote to support Bush, future lawlessness and arrogance.

Fallacies:
1. First, Mr. Rumsfeld and Pres. and V. Pres. take a citizenry that is upset because of a terrorist attack in NYC, and tell the citizenry, in effect, "Let's go out and get even."
2. Next they reflect that the terrorists are not a nation, but a radical lunatic fringe spread out among several nations, it would be unwise to attack them all, so they pick one that appears most vulnerable, because former opium merchants are willing to help us undermine the Taliban establishment.
3. That seems to work well, at first, while the opium trade gets back up and running and we are in the way.
3. Meanwhile, they pick the next most vulnerable-looking nation to attack, and there is not a lot of support, so they look around and, among tons of intelligence data, some bits and pieces to build a case on that this one has capability, and specific plans to hit us with nuclear warheads... and when the citizenry (and their representatives in the legislative branch) are hesitant, Rumsfeld and associates promise it will just be a quick little war, and the people will welcome us with open arms, and democratize and the troops will come very shortly.
4. Next, their facts on which you built your case for attacking the second nation cannot be borne out. And your predictions for a "nice little war" turn out to be
grossly out of sync with what follows.
5. Next, they blame all the intelligence agencies for giving them bad information, and organize them all in such a way as to
be answerable to one of the handful in the White House.
6. Next, when the citizenry begins to lose
confidence in Rumsfeld, Bush, Cheney... Rumsfeld's ploy is to say that the Congress and the citizenry would not question the Whitehouse's facts, assessments and decisions unless they are enemies of our brave military, pawns of those who threaten our nation's security... and veritable haters of Mom, the American Flag and apple pie.
7. Right now the volunteer U. S. military
personnel are spread thin, and nothing is working out the way Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld said it would..., and then the press says as much, then it is the press who threatens the security of the U. S.
8. It couldn't POSSIBLY be all the efforts of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld to get all the decision making, and all the intelligence gathering, and all the deciding what facts should be accepted or rejected on basis of how it makes THEM look... that is the problem. It's the other party. It's the press. It's the citizens who are losing confidence... It just couldn't be THEMSELVES.
I am NOT a democrat. I am not a republican. I vote each individual and each issue. I look, I listen, I think, and I'm sorry if Mr. Rumsfeld makes that out to mean my only reason for doubting him, Cheney and Bush is because I "just don't get it."
I am ready, willing and able to "get it" when they start "getting it."

Another question:
1. Am I the only one who remembers when we HAD to invade Iraq because Saddam had his finger poised above the button to a World Destructo-Ray?
If so, I have a suggestion. Regardless of your political leanings or feelings about the war: Don't get distracted by the gibberish.
This admin. would LOVE it if we forgot about that little gaffe. They will do ANYTHING to make you forget the huge lie that launched this mess. They will continue to come up with reasons and wild accusations to distract people from this inconvenient fact. This admin. is now working desperately to convince people that it wasn't WMD or the desire to spread democracy (feh) that caused the invasion. Nope, forget about that stuff. We did it to stop terrorists, specifically Al Quaida. However, A.Q. was not a problem in Iraq until AFTER the invasion because Bin Laden had no use for Hussein. This is an undisputed fact. Of course, much of what the admin. calls terrorism really IS terrorism but is the domestic sort one gets during a civil war. But this admin. doesn't like that term. Civil wars are messy and look bad. This admin. wants us to make believe that it's just different factions of people, in this case divided along ethnic/religious lines from the same nation trying to kill each other with guerrilla tactics.
Hmmm.
However, after thinking about the latest outpouring of gibberish from on high (and being refreshed by Keith Olbermann's brilliant rebuttal of that crying disgrace to the armed forces), I've come to the conclusion that this is not so much about fighting a war or even helping a particular political party maintain a majority but keeping folks too distracted and confused to insist they answer this very imporant question: Why did you lie to us?

Independent,
In Answer to your question, where does the Bible say that 'God hates a Liar and am I a Reverend.
Lets make it quick,
1. Read Prov. 6:16-19, about the six things that he hates.
2. The book of Proverbs is in the Old Testament, First Will or Hebrew Scriptures if you prefer.
2. It is apparently God that you need to talk to then about forgiveness; I did not say it. And God,apparently does forgive; you are still here right?.
3. When is the last time you've been to Bible class, every child in primer class knows the set of scriptures that I referred to?
Finally, I do not hate Bush, I feel sorry for him (he is in over his head and has been used by a group of people who did not like President Clinton). And i pray for him all of the time, including about 50 times in front of or passing by the White House on my many trips to the Nation's Capitol.
And if you will review my syllogism again, my synthesis was put in the form of a question, i.e., 'therefore does God Hate Mr. Bush?
Good try, but go back to sleep!

I live here in the state of Utah. When George W. Bush stepped off Air Force One here Thursday evening, he reminded me why so many of us hold him in such contempt. He struts--I mean he literally struts--to the dais, stands like some conquering military general to the side of the gushy, puffed up old fart who is introducing him, and gazes imperiously out over this ridiculously fawning crowd of cult like worshipers, arms stuck out in a banty rooster pose, chest all puffed out (sort of like Hitler used to do).
It was a disgraceful performance. And it was all orchestrated to give off an impression that all of the polls are wrong, that this pathetically gullible group of Bush idolators in Utah (Note: Utah is Nirvana to con men and hustlers and is noted as the fraud capital of the world) is actually representative of the whole of America and that this dumb, incompetent, right wing extremeist President is comparable to great Presidents in the past who have faced down Nazis and Communists and Secessionists.
The very notion that this political midget is in anyway on a par with any great President is comically laughable. The truth is Bush is not FDR, is not Reagan or JFK or Truman, is not Teddy Roosevelt and ceratainly not Lincoln. He is far closer to Andrew Johnson.

My comments are directed to the person who identifies him or herself as "anyone". The stupidity my friend is on your part if you are equating any of these characters--Ahmadinejad, Bin Laden, or even Sadaam--as Hitler. None of these people possessed anywhere near the vast destructive military power that Hitler had ammassed prior to WWII.
Look. There have been any number of would-be Hitlers since the Russians found his charred remains in 1945 and buried them. But, none of them have had anywhere approaching the wherewithal to carry out their monstrous visions. That is not to say that we do not need to be vigilant and adress these would be tyrants on an as needed basis. But for you--and Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld to be out there suggesting that we are now in WWIII and that we are facing a Nazi-like threat is not only ludicrous in the extreme, it is downright laughable.
Can't you see that this is a des[perate, Hail Mary, last ditch effort to slime the democrats in advance of the Conressional elections in Novemember. Think about it for a minute. Why now all of a sudden has Bush discovered that we are in a World War against a new brand of fascism? Why was this not what was being said before Iraq descended into the very quagmire that intelligent critics of this fool's policies predicted before we went into Iraq?
If you buy into this claptrap like so many of these shriveled up wrinkled old farts in the American Legion presumably did in Salt Lake City the other day, they you have to be one of the stupidist human beings on this planet.

"I'd say Rumsfeld was a particular menace to America because in his view of a monolithic and totalitarian terrorist enemy".....
Yah, right.....
I'd say that Bush & co. are the menace. After all, rumsfeild is so appreciated that Bush & co wouldn't accept his resignation, even though it was a pure political satire dreamt up to empower the drones in our society that actually believe the propaganda.
This speech and others like it are a test. They are watching our moves to see if we will react. If we do not, then they will seize control. This means having no more freedom than the Chinese.
However, if people take to the streets and demand retribution for the crimes and ineptitude being inflicted our name, we will prevail.
Discussions on hanging those in government who commit treason should be the talk of the day.
By the way, it was so nice of you to admit that you are fed talking points. So much for those who don't believe in conspiracies.
("I received an e-mail from Thayer C. Scott, the secretary's speechwriter, serving up talking points....")
To those drones that actually still support the obvious traitors:
Catch a clew and open your eyes... Or get off the line....

Mateo,
Your rhetorical query is right on and you have also hit the proverbial nail right on the head. The American Administration has created a 'straw man' and it is their hope to rally Americans and regain the support that they have lost given their blunders over the past 3-years. Many Americans are still waiting for the real war on terrorism to begin, thus far all Bush and his accomplices have done is to destroy a sovereign nation, estrange America from its long-time allies, and to violate both international and domestic Law.
By creating this straw man, the current Administration also hoped to do what past Administration's have done, that is to tell the American public that we have identified America's enemy and we must all come together to defeat it. The problem is, based on this Administration's faux paux's over the past 3-years; there has been a noticeable loss of credibility for this Administration. Some of us wonder if the Administration even knows who the really enemy is and whether these folks are capable of figuring out who the enemy really is, or whether they have the where-with-all to do any thing about the real enemy if they ever discover who or what is the true enemy of America? Ah I already know for sure, the enemy is within American itself and to some of your dismay, I am not speaking about Mr. Bush.
Right now the Bush Administration reminds you of a bunch of people with loaded guns who are afraid of some ill-defined enemy, who are twitching and turning around in a 360 degree circle, and firing their gun at anything and anyone that stands or moves, with the hopes of hitting something; in the case of the Administration they simply hope to hit the threat!.
If there is one thing positive that has come out of the Administration's most recent desperate ploy, evidenced by the apparent frustration that is emanating from the White House towards the American people (who the Administration is put in place to serve) is, what the Administration wanted to happen over the past 3-years domestically and abroad, has not happened. The Administration has failed, and it needs to put the blame somewhere. Bush and his team remind me of the Super Sports Team that goes to Japan, for instance, and looses in the quarterfinal round, sorry, I got carried away, but back to my point. The American Administration is the SuperTeam that is loosing and the stakes are very high. However, rather than addressing the team's game plan, they are blaming the cheerleaders and their fans for not cheering them on to victory.
Perhaps like the American Basketball Team at FIBA, the Administration should simply
'learn how, when and where to shoot'. Again, my apologies to the Cable Guy: I should not have said that. Back to my point, this time the American people are not simply turning off their brains and falling in line to destroy other human lives by financing a misguided war and a failed Administration's policy. Americans are savvy and I will go as far as to say, on occasion resilient.
Most Americans were skeptical about Bush's action from the beginning, but most Americans had and still have a conflict, i.e., enlisted American men and women who are caught in the middle!
Bush and his accomplices and his holdover Religious and Political Right supporters, some of whom are defecting lately, simply did not give the American populace enough credit. Americans are savvy and the Administration is doing something that is unwise; criticizing its employer the American people. For the American people know that we have a problem in the world, but unlike the Administration that has simply lumped everyone together, inside and outside of America, into the Bush caldron, in order to create 'an enemy' whereby receive American financial support as well as political backing, Americans want to focus on the actual problem.
Furthermore, Americans will not be scolded or lectured by those that we have put into position to serve protect the interests of Americans. Americans want some skilled analysis of the problem that is going on in the world right now in order to determine how to resolve the real problem even if that means going to war with the America's true enemy. But simply demonizing people and labeling them Islamo-fascists or terrorists is not good enough. Yesterday Bush even employed the C-word in order to further demonize his enemies and galvanize American support, whereby comparing all of his perceived enemies, and inferring that Americans who disapprove of his actions, as being as bad as the communists and fascists in former Nazi Germany. The Liberals got bumped out of their place with the Bush team who over the course of his Administration has considered the lowest of the low, on any scale, to be 'American Liberals'.
There has clearly been a failure of leadership in the United States and for the world over the past six years! And it is time for a serious review to be made by the American people of our employees in Washington; for the President and his team is being insubordinate in my opinion. Since when does the employee lecture the employer! In political terms isn't the manner in which fascism comes about is when the tail begins to wag the dog?
This whole Bush problem over the past 6-years have been instructive however, we need to make some internal changes, not just with the Administration, but the way that we will elect officeholders in the future. It is time for a referendum!
Down with the Bush-tanista's!

"Rumsfeld is a pragmatist. All he cares about is removing and or eliminating a perceived threat as quickly and efficiently as possible. "
ROTFLOL
Your implications are that Iraq was a perceived threat which has been eliminated quickly and efficiently. How long have we been over there? How's the daily death toll, dropped off now has it?
I'll grant you the military offensive went off without a hitch - as it well should have, since the US spends more on military $$ than the rest of the planet.
Quickly? It ain't gonna be quick, don't you have ears? "The LONG war" is one characterization.
Efficient? Tell me how killing 60 civilians in one strike kills terrorists? Are you saying that we (the US) is NOT generating more hatred, more terrorists than it is killing around the globe? That seems to contradict Mr Rumsfeld himself.
It's a ridiculous conversation when the proof is in the budget. You don't win brownie points by bombing a country into the stone age (Iraq, Lebanon) and then help rebuilding it. Think the survivors will just be grateful they are still alive?
Failure is the hallmark of this administration, and their vaunted "success" at deterring further atttacks sounds a lot like taking credit for no more world wars because we won the last one - cicrular logic, it goes where you want it too. Back up your statement with credible proof or all you are doing is barking to make the electorate vote you back into office.
Next time you are running errands on the weekend you can take 30 seconds out of your busy life and thank a liberal (who had to die in THIS COUNTRY not so long ago to get decent hours, stop child labor, start a labor union and get time off from their beknighted employers). WOT - swallowed HLS by the electorate at their peril. It's got not a lot to do with actual terrorists, it's a movement.
Protect the flag, burn the parchment.. yeah right.

The new neocon analogy between fascism-nazism and islam shows a level of intellectual confusion and misreading of history beyond stupidity. Fascism and nazism are phenomena very specific to the antisemetic European and Western culture. You might not know it, but even today there are jews living in Iran, and I don't think that anybody has heard of persecution or exterminations camps for Jews built in this country. Hitler is a guy that only Westerners could have produce. The nazi have nothing to do with middle eastern culture. It is as stupid as comparing apples with oranges.
Thanks God neither Bush nor Rumsfeld were my history teachers!

Mr. Arkin,
You might be very right about your objections and condemnations of Rumsfeld, but it is a little tiring to read them in every single article you post.
The thing is, you keep on condemning Rumsfeld, but you are using that to avoid facing and addressing what he said. What about what he said about the "new Hitler" rising in Iran? are you really as naive as Chamberlain, in thinking that Iran will simply stop hating, and trying to hurt western nations if the US will simply withdraw from Afghanistan and Iraq, and stop droping cluster bombs?
I'm sorry, but that is not even naivity. It's stupidity.

Excellent article !
The only thing NeoCons understand is how to fearmonger people into supporting their counterproductive, terror promoting policies, but the question is how much longer voters are going to keep falling for them.
Fearmongering is actually quite a time honored practise as per Herman Görings - Hitlers second in command - admission below during the Nürnberg trials:
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Excellent article !
Fearmongering is pretty much the only thing these NeoCons understand, the question is whether people are still willing to keep falling for their lies and deceit that have achieved nothing but massively grow terrorism.
Btw, the tactics themselves aren't exactly new, either:
""Of course the people don't want war.
That was Herman Goering, Hitlers second in command, speaking during the Nürnberg trials.

==You are precisely the kind of so-called journalist that the Secretary was describing, and you are too inept to even recognize why.==
So you and Secdef both don't like Arkin. What should be done about this? Should the government pull his "journalist license"? Should he be "re-educated"? Should the Post be pressured to fire him? Or should he be simply imprisoned for the sins you ascrible to him?
So if you attack Arkin for what is essentially incompetence, what should be the punishment for similar sins by the SecDef-ignoring military advice, tactical incompetence on a scale that transcends into strategic, complete inflexibility, pedantic infatuation with reform instead of military victory, etc., etc.?

I've seen the Light Mr. President:
In my minds eye!
Bravo... What strategic brilliance on the part of President Bush and his Advisors regarding Homeland Defense against Terrorism.
It finally hit me like a ton of bricks this morning, as to why President Bush has been trying so hard to articulate the consequences of pulling out of Iraq, and thus, why our staying and fighting in Iraq is essential to the national security of both the United States and its Allies.
The Military Forces of the United States and its Allies have kept Osama bin Laden's Islamic terrorists around the world so bogged down fighting American and Allied soldiers on Iraqi soil, that it's no wonder that the Homeland of the United States has not been attacked by said Terrorists within the last five years.
The Military Forces of the United States and its Allies have shrewdly divided Osama bin Laden's terrorist militias to the point that they are now fighting a multi-front war, the largest fronts being Iraq and Afghanistan.
There is very little chance for Osama bin Laden to order attacks on the West at the present time. If Osama bin Laden were to recall his terrorists army in order to concentrate on Homeland-centric counter-attacks upon the United States and its Allies, then Bin Laden loses his war in Iraq and Afghanistan, - as well as other countries where Al-Qaeda has established bases (Sudan, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, etc.) to his sworn enemies: the United States.
It was imperative for me to self-rationalize why we are still in Iraq, and not just following President Bush blindly. I have to admit that I have become quite depressed over the last several months, after listening to the Democrats drone on about how the Iraqi war has been a major failure, and how SO MANY soldiers have lost their lives for naught, on a daily basis. I ended up losing my faith and trust in why we were still there.
That being said, I finally see the forest for the trees, and can now put my full-hearted support behind the war in Iraq and feel at peace again. I fell victim to the Stockholm syndrome.

As I repeatedly asked you when you wrote for the LA TIMES, Mr. Arkin: What are your credentials, if any? You have none, other than a big mouth and access to media organizations who can't appreciate your lack of true knowledge because they are no better.
And what is the basis for your claims about SecDef Rumsfeld creating his own agencies? Care to name them, identify their locations, sizes, budgets?
As for DoD having its own intel arm, that would be the Defense Intelligence Agency, something that has been around a lot longer than this administration. Your problem, Mr. Arkin, is that YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. You are unqualified, untrained, unskilled and inexperienced in military history and affairs.
What is your contribution to the war on terror? Publication of a book which claims to divulge the code names of secret programs, during time of war. When Secretary Rumsfeld speaks of those who divide the country and distort the truth, he is talking about members of the media like you.
Take a look at this pivotal paragraph from your article:
"Rumsfeld is so wrong about America. His use of World War I history and the specter of fascism and appeasement, and his argument about moral weakness or even treason in any who oppose him, is not only polarizing but ineffective in provoking debate and discussion about the proper course this country must take to 'fight' terrorism."
You are the one who brought up treason, not Secretary Rumsfeld. He never accused anybody of treason or called anybody a traitor. This is not only clear evidence of the kind of distortion that he spoke of within the media, but perhaps evidence of just why people like you are so sensitive to his comments. You projected your own phobias into his speech because, deep down, you know that the conduct of people like you, who publish books with alleged secrets and distort the truth, are not exactly functioning with anything close to a patriotic behavior.
You incorrectly cited his discussion of World War I when his speech actually spoke of the year 1919, the aftermath of WW I and how the abhorrence of war led too many to believe that everything must be done to avoid it, even if it meant accommodating fascism and Nazism.
Your lack of knowledge of history, your true incompetence about military affairs and your inability to accurately read the text of this speech and understand it without maligning and distorting it through your prism of hate is a prime example of the problem that Secretary Rumsfeld tried to address.
People like you are a huge part of the problem because you MAKE yourself the problem. You do not listen, you do not give serious consideration to ideas and you do not report factually. You are precisely the kind of so-called journalist that the Secretary was describing, and you are too inept to even recognize why.

I don't give a fart about Rumsfeld. This blog is the same thing all over again every single day. A bunch of angry, hate filled Liberals that want to shove their view of the world down the throat of anyone who disagrees with them - even moderates on both sides and Independents. The Godless Liberals want to silence and bury Christianity; but coddle Islamic facists and embrace Islam as a peaceful religion. After all, Christians are slaughtering innocent civilians and Islam is at complete peace with the world - aren't they?. It wasn't Hizbollah killing civilians, it was the ROCKETS! (NRA - Hizbollah Chapter). It wasn't Islamic facists that killed people in the WTC towers, Pentagon, and in a field in Pennsylvania - it was the AIRPLANES! (NRA - Afghanistan Chapter). And then you have Christians in Iraq making IED's and killing Muslims. Not Muslims killing Muslims for Christ's sake. Why do Liberals feel so threatened by Christians but not by Islamic facism? Who is more likely to kill a Liberal? Osama bin Laden or your garden variety Christian preacher? Well have no fear, Arkin is here to twist reality and create more divisiveness, anger, and hatred. Arkin isn't worth the dumps I take in the morning. I'm happy I don't carry around the large amount of anger that Arkin and associates do. All I care about is the FACT that I can look forward to the day when Liberals take over the Congress and Presidency and the world will be at peace. Islamic facism will evaporate and give thanks to Allah. Amnesty International and the UN Human Rights Organization will not have anything to criticize about the U.S. We will continue to pour billions into the hapless UN and the UN will no longer be anti-American. Wow! The world is going to be great - even though Liberals only criticize and spew hatred without ANY plan! But not to worry, just the mere presence of the Liberals will make everything okay. Americans will be filled to the brim with hope and happiness. Nancy Pelosi will have beautiful curtains in her office. The people of the world will live as one big happy family! I wonder what Arkin will write about then? Hmmm...
Allahu Akbar

Mr. President,
I am a Conservative Christian Republican that has no intentions of
voting for you in this year's election and many other Conservative
Republicans are following me.
America demands the TRUTH and not after the elections; this nation demands the truth from you RIGHT NOW! This letter and an identical email will be going out to hundreds of thousands by me, millions by others. The
following content was sent to the White House by facsimile earlier today from Ground Zero in New York City.
1. I demand as an American citizen that you lift the "gag order" on Sibel D. Edmonds and let Americans know what foreign names and what AMERICAN NAMES she uncovered in her FBI translations that were involved in drug trafficking, money laundering and the financing of 9-11.Her facts and your "official story" lies do not add up. Americans demand the truth on that matter before the election.
2. I demand to know what energy companies were in that Cheney Energy Task Force meeting and what discussions there were as to the steps that would be taken to remove the Taliban and Bridas Corporation as the last remaining obstacle to the United States controlling the Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline. I met that company in 1999 and have known since then about the Bridas v Unocal, $15 billion interference of contract lawsuit in US District Court, Southern District of Texas. I also know about the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision on September 9, 2003 that upheld the Bridas $500 million arbitration settlement and the March 22, 2004 denial of Writ of Certiorari at the United States Supreme Court, Case 03-1018, Turkmenneft v Bridas.
3. I demand to know how many prisoners are being held at GITMO and other places that are either BRIDAS EMPLOYEES or are persons that know all about Bridas Corporation and what your administration did to get control of that Trans-Afghanistan pipeline.
4. I demand to know how many board meetings Condoleezza Rice and Thomas Kean sat in on at Chevron and Amerada Hess where it was discussed how they were going to deal with making the billions in "Big Oil"
investments into a land locked Caspian Basin and how to get rid of the Taliban and Bridas so they could turn those investments into cash flow. How many times did Big Oil ask for military force to complete a commercial transaction
they could not get under their control, and on what exact date did you agree to provide such military force - prior to 9-11? Isn't it true Mr. Bush that the Cheney Energy Task Force discussed that attack on Afghanistan and removal of the Taliban / Bridas obstacle once and for all - and did so well in advance of 9-11?
5. I demand to know why you appointed 10 persons to the 9-11 Commission, 8 of which are directly benefiting by the Taliban / Bridas "contract" obstacle being removed - breached with military force, and the big Caspian Oil deals that are now coming to market. No, America does not 'thank you' for that nor do we hold such despicable conduct up high.
6. I demand to know what US Oil Company stepped up as the sponsor of that OPIC and Asia Development Bank funded Trans-Afghanistan pipeline and what US company is constructing that pipeline right now, and what US firms are supplying the key components and their relationship to your administration.
7. I demand that you identify the company and persons who were going around Bridas to be "natural gas suppliers" to the US owned natural gas electrical generation plants in Pakistan (Dynegy - Illinova /Tenaska, El Paso (2 OPIC financed transactions) and others.
8. I demand to know why you have not been truthful with the American public that your GWOT and military policy are protecting the Caspian Basin Oil and Gas deals for many of your Bush Pioneers, some $9.6 trillion in oil and about $3 trillion in natural gas, now mostly in the hands of your elite wealthy contributors and some elite Liberals to keep this all quiet.
9. I demand to know what role the post-bankruptcy ENRON (Prisma Energy International, Cayman Islands) is playing in the Caspian Basin area, the same Enron that uses the law firm of Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw [Richard Ben Veniste, 9-11 Commission] that established the offshore SPE's for assets that were never under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
10. I demand to know why you appointed Richard Ben Veniste to the 9-11 Commission when it was his law firm that was stalling Bridas Corporation at the Fifth Circuit US Court of Appeals in the matter of Bridas Corporation v.Turkmenneft and his law firm is directly involved in Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan and your administration.
11. I demand to know the exact date of the order that had our military practicing in early 2001 the invasion of Afghanistan to take out the Taliban and Bridas Corporation and make that pipeline under control of US interests, many of your Bush Pioneers, and the exact date that our military started practicing and preparing for that invasion.
12. I demand to know who Remington Holdings Ltd is, and Western Acquisitions, Inc, both Baker & Botts clients and the lucky recipients of OPIC financing to acquire oil and gas deposits in Pakistan.
Who are the parties involved in those entities by name and benefited from such governmental magnanimity? Is this transaction a payoff? Since American taxpayers are footing the bill, we have the right to know - right now.
13. I demand to know why you could not find 10 people to sit on the 9-11 Commission that are not directly benefiting from the actions you have taken and the lives you have cost or otherwise ruined. Why would you select people not motivated to find the truth for that would impact "their bottomline"?
14. I demand a full disclosure from your administration as to the Citibank / IFTRIC / OPIC / Export-Import Bank financing of American /Israeli based deals in Islamic nations on behalf of your major campaign contributors. "IFTRIC and Citibank have an agreement allowing Citibank to finance approved IFTRIC-backed transactions. Citibank Israel CEO Nandan Mar said: 'The Citibank branch, and the Structured Trade Finance Group, view IFTRIC's program as a basic product for the bank's domestic activities.' " I see distinct differences between "terrorism" and "outrage"
(Shurtan II) at your policies.
15. I demand to know why you wanted an entire new division of the CIA for Argentina. As an American citizen I take umbrage to your belligerence towards a nation that is not an enemy of the United States by any stretch of the imagination, except possibly yours. It is abundantly clear that your intentions were solely to intimidate Argentina and
Argentinabased Bridas Corporation into silence and that is NOT AMERICA. That has every appearance of the United States acting as the terrorist and a state sponsor of terrorism. Yes, you are wrapped in a flag but I clearly see that it is not the one you purport it to be.
16. I demand to know why your administration has never disclosedthat DynPort Vaccine, LLC, owned by DynCorp and now owned by Computer Sciences Corporation, a Bush Pioneer, is a possible source for where the weaponized Ames Strain of anthrax came from that was used against this nation. How did your administration manage to miss one of your campaigncontributors and a company doing large volumes of business with your administration and even being known euphemistically (DynCorp) as The Mercenary Company? Who put that Contract on America?
17. I demand to know how you can claim a pretense of being a Christian while sponsoring and condoning the torture of prisoners, including sodomizing children, at Abu Ghraib prison.
18. I demand to know how your administration can send firms overseas as "representatives of this nation" that were convicted of running a flesh trade in little girls in Bosnia, specifically one DynCorp. Convicted in Texas and the United Kingdom according to reports I have seen and apparently detested in Afghanistan. You do recall that DynCorp is the company providing security to protect your puppet Karzai in Afghanistan and your other puppet Zalmay Khalilzad is deterring anyone from running for President in that bogus "free" democracy?
19. I demand to know why your administration keeps running the name and photos of Adnan G. El Shukrijumah as the"dirty bomb boogeyman" and on March 25, 2003 the FBI knew exactly where to find him and did not go after him.
That telephone call was made from my telephone by a Canadian friend that was in Little Rock on that date, Mr. Bush, so do not pretend "national security" with me.
I am "first person" on this matter and all of America deserves to know the extent that your administration has been and is lying to us all - and someone that is not Al Qaeda is probably "dropping a suspect name" as they set up a dirty bomb attack. Sure have pushed up the oil and gas prices with your strategy though, guess we can consider that another "Mission Accomplished".
20. I demand to know why your administration keeps referring to Adnan G. El Shukrijumah as a "Saudi" when the FBI knows full well he is not Saudi. His family is from Guyana in South America and they have lived in Florida since 1986 without incident. His grandparents were from Yemen, moved long ago to South America and his mother is from Trinidad & Tobago.
21. I demand to know why you alerted India, Pakistan and "Axis of Evil" member Iran of your intentions to attack the Taliban / Bridas well before 9-11, and not notify the citizens of this nation. That matter was reported on June 26, 2001 in India newspapers.
22. I demand to know the exact date that the first meeting, first page of the Patriot Act was started by your administration.
23. I demand to know why it is you, your backers, certain Democrats that apparently "hate our freedoms" more than these purported GWOT Islamic fundamentalists, hence the Patriot Act that treats all Americans with the same degree of contempt and disdain you treat all non-wealthy Americans.
24. I demand to know why Homeland Security is protecting this government and not protecting this nation.
25. I demand to know why any dissent or objections to your Orwellian, imperialistic, pro-corporate agenda is referred to the Homeland Security Counter-Terrorism Division.
26. I demand to know why you defile everything you touch and try to twist it into something that is pro-Bush Backers and anti-American citizens and then try to alter our rights as Americans via Patriot Act measures
that are designed to force America into submission and does nothing to protect this nation, only this government.
27. I demand to know why your administration is planning a "pro-Bush Pioneers pharmaceutical program" derived from TMAP (Texas Medical Algorithm Project) and PENNMAP (Tom Ridge, Pennsylvania) to have Americans tested under guidelines prepared by your Bush Pioneers and force psychotropic drugs on Americans.
28. I demand to know why your administration keeps injecting our troops with an anthrax vaccine known to be deadly and harmful to the health of our soldiers and now apparently wish to inject that into all Americans under Project BioShield and martial law. Is that why you have no concern whatsoever for the 3 million jobs lost, for between your TMAP lunacy and Project BioShield lunacy, well over 3 million Americans could perish if the same statistical rates hit the general population as has hit our military? Can you explain away Holocaust with "brilliant strategy policy" driven by unmitigated greed?
29. I demand to know why Li Ka-shing was denied Global Crossing on national security grounds (very public) yet allow him in the back door in Savi Technology (not disclosed), the RFID technology company that is purportedly protecting our ports from insertion of a nuclear bomb into this nation via "ocean going containers". How many doors are left wide open by your administration in this GWOT Fable?
30. I demand to know why you search the world for mythical terrorists and cannot find robber barons and financial terrorist right under your nose. That many of them are Bush Pioneers and even backers of the Democratic Party, and have plundered the investors, workers and citizens of this nation, is very apparent to Americans and not very pro-family on your part.
Christians do not lie, Mr. Bush, for that is an affront to God. A Christian would not willfully mislead this nation, nor send our troops into Harm's Way for a lie while your wealthy contributors take over a $9.6 trillion oil, $3.0 trillion natural gas deal and already maneuvering for Africa. You are proving to the world that you are terrified of the truth and have impeded every investigation into the truth.
Your actions prove that you are not an upstanding Christian, nor are you a Conservative Republican worthy of that designation.
Your position as President does not make you unaccountable to the citizens of this nation, nor does it entitle you to act as a tyrant, an emperor, or serving only those Americans that dole out money for your political ambitions and agendas. I see no "stewardship" in your conduct whatsoever.
You have "Mission Accomplished" three times - the removal of Taliban / Bridas to control that pipeline, radically escalated the price of oil and gas for some of your major backers, and the death and maiming of many due
to your lies. Your "Iraq Strategery" makes perfect sense to me, since all of you needed a diversion away from Afghanistan, the Caspian Basin and what you did to Bridas Corporation to get control of that $9.6 trillion in oil, $3
trillion in natural gas.
Go back home and wrap yourself in the flag of Texas and the shame you alone are responsible for creating. Your resume is your doing and yours alone.
If you were running against me this year, you would not have the guts to stay on the stage in a debate with me.
Shame on all of you, both sides of the aisle that have lied to America and gotten so many killed and maimed for a lie, and no, I am not an antiwar person. Just adamantly opposed to what you stand for, for that is lower than Clinton on his worst day.
Sincerely,
Karl W. B. Schwarz

Ron in Boston sayz
"
I believe Rumsfeld uses secret mind control with satellites beaming microwaves or other forms of virulent radiation into the brains of a mostly unsuspecting public.
"
no, that is not what is going on, it has to do with this website.......
http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm
and how we got into Iraq....
REMEMBER the current fiasco/regime STARTED?
probably not, it was actually more than a few years ago.
key player:
Bush Sr. otherwise known as Poppy or George H.W. Bush,
started his career, supposedly in Florida, trying to avenge his Uncle Walker by offin Castro with some CIA and Mafia boyz.......
google George H.W. Bush and Walker and Zapata Oil
he's a former head of CIA, Congressman before that, Vice President, then President...probably more than 50 years of his life making connections...including working for Halliburton while his son was president.........it's _all_ about connections....
George H.W. Bush Sr.:
sent April Glasspie to Iraq, who with a nod and a wink told Saddam that his border dispute with Kuwait was an internal matter. I think Saddam was suckered into invading because the US needed a new enemy after the collapse of the soviet union....
PNAC, look at this website
http://www.newamericancentury.org/statementofprinciples.htm
Saddam invades Kuwait, we now have an official reason to be there....
looks like we'll establish a presence in Kuwait, we already have one in Saudi...our CIA trains them...CIA trained the 9/11 pilots....and aL QUEARDAS!!!! School of the Americas
honduras/negroponte/goss/hayden/rumsfeld/wolfowitz/walker
Saudi Royals was given the rights to Saudi Arabia by the Brits after WWII, the Royals were put into power...
who owns the ports on US soil? the Brits...who's supporting us in Iraq? The Brits
Protecting the Kuwaiti's:
We go into Iraq with Stormin Norman....and kill a couple of 100 thousand Iraqis and
stop short of Bagdhad....you know why, WE'RE GOING BACK...that's why we stopped...when the time is ripe economically.........
and now that we occupy, are embedded in Kuwait,
we put the country of Iraq in stasis with embargoes until we need it........or the world economy is shifting and things are ripe....
China Pakistan, and India are emerging...THEY NEED OIL!!!!!!!!!!
THEN, the family needed to intervene....in this case the international riche, which includes the Saudis, Kuwaitis, and the US Affluent that stand to make a bit of cash....
mind you the Germans, English and French have their hands in this...but your buddy dubya, is the gawdfathers only visible son....unless you need the state militia called to keep Terry Schiavo from being unhooked...as a grandstanding event...for GAWD 'N YOUR VOTE!!!
good fricking thing Kathleen Harris was counting, gawd told her it was two to one for bushie boy!!!! Jeb's next
so we intervene on national television...bombs going off, constant coverage, city surrounded, surveillance on every living thing that's bigger than a booger..
and somehow, miracle of miracles, like the virgin mary turning up on your french toast:
Saddam escapes from Bagdhad with (3) three tractor trailer loads of cash, $9 BILLION$ in CASH right? Anyone in dubyas extended family gotten riche lately?
the museums were emptied right? ha ha ha...that's rich....where's the art go?
as far as conspiracy goes,
there never was a CIA/NORIEGA/BUSH Sr. connection right?
and the Chilean president wasn't asassinated in DC with full CIA under George H.W. Bushes knowledge...and he's not sitting on the board of directors today of a Chilean mining company about to destroy some peasants lives, by taking away their source of water is he, and it's not because of that favor is it? naw, that would be too !conspirational!
when this exectutive branch or complicit congress feels the heat getting close, what do they say? conspiracy? that's right boyz and girls
Where'd that white up George W. Bushes nose come from? Panama? Noriega or Columbia?
the thing of it is,
the United States suckered, under George H.W. Bush, Saddam Hussein into attacking Kuwait, so we could be the "heroes", and become military occupiers...to lead us to this point....
walking down the road with no impetus to replacing our dependence on oil, a non-renewable resource....because it's not to the benefit of the countries leaders
this has a lot to do with _families_ working together _not related by blood_, as well as politics that don't include you as a positive recipient of thier efforts, as well as...
helping you to understand that it isn't all cowboy hats and honesty leading you...
Saddam was deliberately mislead into attacking Kuwiat, by President George H.W. Bush, we indicated that we would look the other way if Saddam wanted to reacquire some land and oil wells that he thought the Kuwiatis had taken.....so we would have an excuse to extend our influence.
did we tell Saddam Hussein the truth?
no.
it wasn't to our advantage.
the bushes intimately understand the middle eastern tribe mentality, they have trbal mentality, they protect and work with their own....they use the government to get what they want for their tribe
ps. you're not included in their tribe....
morons in charge and morons voted them in...using demagoguery as a political tool needs to be exposed....predjudice as a tool.
you want a better country quit pandering to morons and pandering to hate.....
the point of it is, the bush family, is trying to bury some information that needs to be understood
the ultimate threat to this country is people that can write but can't think or see...or don't want you to.
I would suggest that those who would use thier governmental office for personal gain at the expense of the citizens lose thier citizenship, and be charged with treason and their properties confiscated....
intimidation as control shouldn't be tolerated....
read the bill of rights, the right to bear arms was specifically inserted into the Bill of Rights to prevent the United States from being taken over from within, which is what what is happening now....
that's the point, a dictatorship and a congress that takes advantage of citizens, doesn't deserve to serve....
tom delay: violated his oath of office twice and not a single member of congress has the oats to call him on it....cowards or fellow crooks?
who needs to look for leaks when anyone with two eyes can see a pattern...of deceit and corruption.

If in some smothering dreams, you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin,
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs
Bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

The U. S. Constitution, together with Ammendments to it, and Supremen Court Interpretations of it, and Legislation passed with respect to the application of it, and administrative regulations which apply all the foregoing in sometimes "creative" ways, all operate on what is supposed to be a dynamic of checks and balances. And, of course, within the limits placed by all the foregoing, the American people are give some latitude as to whom they believe can best carry out some of the roles (elected ones) in that dynamic.
In an emergency, there are provisions for the overriding of many of those checks and balances by the Executive branch of the government, and many of the freedoms of citizen voters can be limited.
Enter upon this scene a president who -- after an enemy attacks us -- takes the reins into his hands by declaring war on some nation.
No Chief Executive (president) should lead the U. S. against a nation of his choice without due process, and without accurate intelligence to justify WHO we retaliate against.
If the Chief Executive tells the nation he has reliable intelligence proving a certain country has the capability to deliver nuclear warheads onto us, and is planning to do so, and declares war he -- and his Vice President and his Secretary of Defense, and all others he appoints to carry out the war, and determine policies in that regard, does it mean NOTHING if the presidents facts turn out to be in error.
Granted, no one has proved Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld manufactured facts for the purpose, but ONCE THEY HAD DONE SO, they had the reins in hand REGARDLESS.
They predicted the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq would result in our being welcomed with open arms by citizens ready, willing and able to democratize and take control, so our troops could come home.
When the "case" for invading Iraq did not turn out to be based on accurate facts, the message changed. We needed to have done it for other reaons.
When the "predictions" for how the war would play out, and how soon, did not turn out to be based on accurate assessments, the message changed, and we needed to be engaged for other reasons.
In short, making the "right" decisions, according to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld has nothing to do with getting one's facts straight, or knowing the outcome of one's decisions. This handful of men were justified in seizing the reins of control over our nation's desitiny in war, on grounds the rest of us primarily for the reason that nobody but them understands why that is the best course for us.
Let me see if I'm getting this right:
Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld are entitled to
seize the reins of our nation's destiny in war, and ggt the facts wrong, and use strategies that do not turn out the way they expect, because the Congress and the people do not understand sufficiently to get it right.
And THEY DO ??????????????????????????

""If I were the conspiratorial type"
You are. I might add that you are not a military strategist."
Brilliant! And the Sec of Defense is a military.. genius.. No wait, nothing has gone according to The Plan.. No WMD programs worth the invasion.. No cheering crowds strewing flowers (NPR had one Iraqi saying Saddam might have not been a nice guy but things were stable back then)
Now let's talk about the Flip-Flopper.. No nation building.. Oh wait, that was the LAST election, it's all OK now.
Democracy at any cost.. Oh wait, no, we don't like those guys, they kill innocent civilians.. they're terrorists.. Sorry, there needs to be a new election..
How is it that gov't cannot be trusted to regulate plain ol' business in the good ol' US, but it can be expected to protect the US constitution through secret courts, arbitrary detention, domestic SPYING..?
Some folks call that protection I guess, but taken objectively that would be called criminal if a different president were in office.. you know, one from the "other" party!
Bah! You swallow all that and call the liberals names.. Idiots.. We are all Americans, and we'll get exactly the gov't we deserve.

Penile implants to treat erection problems (erectile dysfunction) replace the spongy tissue (corpora cavernosum) inside the penis that fills with blood during an erection with rigid, semirigid, or inflatable cylinders thus making your dick harder than tool steel. The implants come in a variety of diameters and lengths.
Rigid and semirigid implants are always firm. The semirigid models can be bent into different positions (outward to have sex; back toward the body to conceal under clothing).
The cylinders in an inflatable implant are hollow. You get an erection by pumping them full of saltwater, or saline, stored in a reservoir in your lower abdomen. A release valve on the pump (in the scrotum) drains the saline out of the cylinders and back into the reservoir.
See an illustration of a penile implant.
Surgery will be done using regional or general anesthesia. The implants are inserted through an incision made in the penis, lower abdomen, or scrotum. A thin, flexible tube is inserted briefly up the urethra and into the bladder to drain urine.
A three-chamber implant (with a cylinder in the penis, a reservoir in the abdomen, and valve in the scrotum) is usually more reliable than a two-chamber implant (with a reservoir and valve in the scrotum). Inserting the three-chamber implant is a slightly more complicated surgery.
What To Expect After Surgery
Generally, you stay 1 or 2 days in the hospital. You will take antibiotics for up to 2 weeks after surgery to prevent infection.
The urinary catheter is used for about 1 day after surgery.
Do not wear tight underwear or clothing until the surgical incision has healed. Men with inflatable implants may need to avoid tight clothing for 6 weeks to avoid pushing the saline reservoir out of position.
You can generally return to strenuous physical activity and sex after about a month. Inflatable implants usually are not inflated for a month.
Why It Is Done
Penile implants are an option when other, less invasive treatments for erection problems have not been successful and further treatment is desired.
Implants may be the treatment of choice for young and middle-aged men with erection problems from physical causes. Penile implants may be appropriate treatment for men with erection problems caused by:
Diabetes.
Pelvic surgery.
Blood vessel disease.
Injury to the pelvis, genitals, or spinal cord.
Peyronie's disease, curvature of the penis caused by scar tissue.
Because implants permanently change the tissue in the penis, they are not used for men whose erection problems are psychological.
How Well It Works
The satisfaction rate for most men is high for both noninflatable and inflatable implants. 1 An erection with a properly working implant may seem more natural than one from other, nonsurgical methods, such as a vacuum device. The head (glans) of the penis is not made fully rigid by the devices. Semirigid implants do not increase the size of the penis or produce the fullness of a natural erection.
Implants do not interfere with ejaculation, though ejaculation and orgasm are not ensured. Implants neither increase nor decrease sexual desire.
Noninflatable implants and inflatable devices can last indefinitely.
Risks
The site of the implant may become infected. The risk of infection is higher in men with diabetes, spinal cord injuries, or urinary tract infections. If the infection is severe, the implant must be removed.
Pain may occasionally require removal of the implant.
The most common cause of failure is leakage from the cylinders. Other, less common complications include the following:
Tissue near the implant (erosion) may be injured.
The implant may break through the skin.
The implant may break.
The implant may be positioned incorrectly.
The implant may be defective and not work.
What To Think About
When considering surgery for erection problems, it is important to include your partner in your decision.
It is important that you have realistic expectations about the type of erections you can have with an implant. The use of penile implants is declining as men consider the risks of surgery--including infections--and as other options become available, such as vacuum pumps, injections, and medications.
No problems have been reported from the shedding of silicone particles from the implants.
Semirigid implants are the least expensive option. This surgery is usually covered by insurance policies and by Medicare.

I've always wondered why newspapers publish "blogs." They just give you the publication's party line in another form. But in the case of Arkin & TWP, his blog serves an even higher purpose. It gives the Post an opportunity to have a "third party" express its Bush Derangement Syndrome in a way they would never openly attach their name to in the newspaper itself.

Poster said: "At least Rumsfield and friends have kept radical Islam from destroying more cities in the USA":
So which is better then, having Americans and others die in Iraq or on an airplane at 30,000 feet. Wake up the same number of people have died, equal to the number that died on 911, and far more have been wounded.
You have been duped, we want a real solution to the problem. And it will start when we do the following:
1. The Administration and Congress must return to the day when Bush took office and consider the state of the Union and the world on that day.
2. Review what what going on in the world at time, taking into consideration information that was passed on th previous Administration.
3. Review the actions and plans that were on the table before 911.
4. Go back to 911 and review the plans of this Administration as a result of the planes that were crashed into buildings and American cities on 911. What were they planning to do afterwards.
5. Review those plans and how they were carried and consider 3 years later, were the plans viable, what went wrong and what needs to be done.
6. Have some objective observers to review those new plans, along with our allies to decide whether we have the support of our friends and allies.
This would be a good start to saving problems and addresing the American problem...!

DOES GOD HATE BUSH?
Some obtuse Bush defenders argue that anyone who does not agree with Bush policies is a Bush hater. Here is a syllogism that should give all of the so-called Bush haters some comfort, for it turns out that we are in good company.
1. The Christian Bible reads: GOD HATES A LIAR!
2. Bush is a Liar.
3. Therefore GOD also hates Bush?
The fact is that Bush defenders are just like him and his boyz, always slinging mud and labeling people given that they really cannot defend his abhorrent positions!
Bush is a Representative of the people and serves at the will of the people and he will be held accountable for his actions - he will answer and not lecture us!
I suppose that the Supreme and District Court's also hate Bush, given their recent decisions about his abuse of power and neglect of Congress?

Forgive me, I'm kind of new to this blogging but have a question for all of the people on this site who claim that "Islamo-fascists want to destroy America and our way of life."
I have three questions, really: first, which Islamofascists, exactly, have said "My goal is to invade and destroy America, conquer its people and subject them all to Sharia law and/or kill them and their way of life."
If you can provide a quote from a particular speech, or even just a name and references/weblinks, that will do. I'll admit I've seen many quotes by Islamic radicals saying they'd like to accomplish Sharia law in Saudi Arabia or Iran or Syria or Israel, but never have I heard of such plans for America. And I would think that the Arabs and Syrians and Israelis etc. might also not want to go along with this, but perhaps someone can enlighten me?
It seems like this would be very difficult, as it's a long swim from the mideast to the east coast (even longer to California!), and also, last I checked the American people are a pretty well-armed and geographically-distributed bunch, so seems it would take an army of millions invading to accompiish this goal.
America has, what, 300 million people, and 3.5 million square miles, so I'd guess an invading force of Islamofascists would need a navy the size of, well, ours to move all their soldiers to our shores, then they'd have to overcome OUR navy, Air Force, coast guard and submarines, then they'd have to actually physically GET to the shore, w

Attention Mr. Arkin & your WP readers: Earthly figurative third dimensional beings so named Bush,Cheney and Rumsfeld...the front and center names so to speak who provoke you into your writings and allowing others to comment on the world happenings and the hidden agendas of these three persona's are all certainly full of expression in their duality views....the republican v. democrat perspectives. So who do they individually and collectively represent...that is your ego dominant Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld phallic symbols? Whom do they speak for? Humanoids can have multiple persona's, the one instilled at birth, later modified by earthly evolutionary circumstances. In earth sphere calendar time up until a few hundred years ago, although even then rare, certain physical earth beings usually male within your milky way planetary alignment had by way of one or more of their zodiacal birth chart houses, at some point usually after puberty, without altering their persona, their physical body taking in of a walk-in persona from a previous soul life. This previous persona was not known or made aware to the existing third dimensional figure until such persona was activated. Their inability to control this "new" I am presence has duality depending upon the source of the walk-in persona. Such a walk-in presence is beyond your third dimensional side yet too comes of the side of "light or darkness". What are the clues or tips that one say as yourself Arkin can research, analyze or seek for guidance, clarification and explanation to oneself and your readers when say focusing on these three figurative persons? Their natal birth charts reveal the basics. Their last names have a resonance and vibration of what you and your readers would call deceit, death and lacking in deference. Names tell a story, particularly ones last name for in your third dimensional world they usually do take on the vibration of a biblical name. So which scriptures, bible or dogmatic equivalent are say these three names derived? Christianity, Judaism or Islamic sources would be a good place to begin. The heavens would be another space, that is those of the mid heavens where the angelic command has been made up of what in your duality dimension you call good and evil. Begin with say the name of Rumsfeld...for in the hierarchical realms the archangel and angelic name of Rumjal and Ruman may offer some guidance and meaning to the road that lies ahead and what awaits humanity the next 12 years. Until another time.
