Today's Editorials: What Financial Crisis?
NYT: Argues that the White House and Treasury Department have yet to "fully grasp the seriousness" of U.S. financial markets' decline. "In times like these, the president and his Treasury secretary should be working hard to inspire confidence and to help vulnerable Americans. We're waiting," the editors write.... Says that South African President Thabo Mbeki has "catastrophically failed to face up to his country's greatest challenge" -- the AIDS epidemic -- and slams him for firing Deputy Health Minister Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, "one of the few effective AIDS fighters in his administration."
LAT: Criticizes a new program in California that allows lawyers to cut in line at courthouse entrances. "Delays may be irritating," the editors note, "but they are necessary in buildings where emotions can run high."
WaPo: Lists changes the Senate should make to a bill already approved by the House that would "blunt the impact of a Supreme Court ruling that severely constricted the opportunity for workers to seek redress in court for pay discrimination."
