Lay Pugnacious During Cross

At 3:08 p.m. CT, defense lawyer George "Mac" Secrest passed Kenneth L. Lay to government prosecutor John Hueston.

The opening was instantly contentious. Hueston charged right in, asking a number of questions. Finally, he asked: "Is that the right response?"

"It's not the right response, but you can write it down," Lay said, with irritation. "Mr. Hueston, when I was sworn in, I said I would tell the truth and the whole truth, not the partial truth."

"I'm going to try to ask simple questions," Hueston said.

"Good," Lay said, with annoyance.

It's only 10 minutes into the cross-ex and the defense needs to call a time-out before this turns into a rout.
