Skilling Goes 'Hazy'
More than once, former Enron chief executive Jeffrey K. Skilling has testified that he was "hazy" on key details under questioning.
Well, here in the Overflow Press Room (OPR), Skilling has gone literally hazy several times this morning.
We're five floors below the courtroom where Skilling is on the stand. We're watching the trial -- well, the witness box, really -- via a projection television that beams the image onto a pull-down home-movie screen.
The focus occasionally goes bad on the TV, rendering Skilling as a fuzzy figure, as though his image were being digitally obscured for his own protection. After several minutes, Skilling comes back into focus. Then, he goes all fuzzy again. And you should not infer that we mean this metaphorically, as well.
Of course, no one here in the OPR can run up to the ninth floor to tell the camera operator to stop futzing with the focus, because then we'll miss some testimony.
