Well done. McCain's "straight shooter" image has its flaws. Romney can be a flip-flopper, but on the surge, he's been pretty consistent.

McCain isn't playing with a full deck. He seems to drift off to "things that happened in 1962". I keep getting the feeling that a car will backfire and he'll jump on the floor and shout "incoming"! Do we want this guy near the nuclear trigger? Nope.

Look, I support Romney, but it is clear that Robin Roberts was asking about -- and Romney was answering -- WITHDRAWAL, just like McCain said. One Pinocchio, at worst.

Three noses are merited. I have been a long-time fan of Sen. McCain and would have voted for him in 2000 if given the chance (lived overseas during the primaries). This attack is a serious distortion of Gov. Romney's remarks. This line of attack is unworthy of him. Just another pol? Let's hope not.

Romney was arguing for EVENTUAL withdrawal. Very few Americans support a permanent troop presence in Iraq. Sadly, Sen. McCain appears to be one of these few.

It is obvious that McCain has lied about Romney's comments on Iraq. In fact the setting of goals to turn security over to the Iraq government is the proper approach. The media needs to hold McCain accountable for dirty politics.

The more I learn about McCain, the less I like about him.

Selecting a former squadron commander to be our Commander in Chief is kind of like selecting a low-level manager to be the CEO of a large corporation.

McCain just doesn't have the credentials.

McCain obviously exaggerated Romney's position a bit, but in a race where Romney has done nothing BUT distort other candidates, it is not surprising that McCain is finally fighting back with like tactics. I think it is a tactic to keep the Romney camp from spreading more rumors.

McCain finally fighting back? That's interesting, as McCain and Huckabee have been on a negative crusade of incessant character attacks for months now. Governor Romney has stuck to the issues, and pointed out differences on same, and has been falsely labeled negative for it. If you want to point fingers, blame the post and the rest of the media for not doing their jobs on that score.

Now for an intellectual exercise: If you could quiz someone that knows either man personally, the following picture would emerge.

McCain is tempestuous, cranky, vengeful, myopic and mean (unless you agree with him every wit).

Romney is insightful, cheery, articulate, seeks out and listens to opposing views without belittling and is restlessly inquisitive.

The latter are all characteristics of a great leader and statesman. That's what we need. That's why I'm for Romney.

We all see it for what it is. McCain trying to change the subject back to his only (perceived) credential. And I say perceived because I don't see a lot of foreign policy wins to his credit to back the claim.

Just because the man can pick and win fights like a schoolyard bully does not in any way qualify him to be President of the United States.

So to "Still Deciding", keep considering, and choose carefully.

McCain is just a neocon in disguise. Neocons believe the USA should control everything around the world. They think they are all-knowing and on a higher plane than everyone else. I wonder how bad Wolfowitz will screw up his new job on the arms control group. That scares me because anyone who would fall for Chalabi would fall for anything.

Poor John McCain. He not infrequently seems to be out of step with national opinion, in both good and bad ways. Witness this desperate attempt on his part to change the subject back to Iraq from the Economy, even though it is ranking abysmally low on the index of concerns that people express when polled.

If I were Romney, I would refuse to let McCain bait me into talking about Iraq. Instead, respond quickly to his points, and then keep talking about the economy and economic measures. Force McCain to fight on your turf.

This may stir a few of you GOP'ers up a bit, but I am a Hillary supporter and swear on everything holy that if Obama is the Democratic nominee, I will happily throw my support to McCain.

Mitt Romney is so full of hot air; McCain is the clear winner here.

Read the quote again. Romney is asked if he would support timetables for withdrawal. The response: "Well, there's no question - but that the President and - Prime Minister al-Maliki have to have a series of timetables and milestones that they speak about. But those shouldn't be for public pronouncement." The rest of the quote just says that the date should not be made public.

Romney says the president needs to set timetables--or a series of timetables. "There's no question". Given the context of the question, what other timetables could he be referring to?

Unless Romney can explain how his support for a "series of timetables" is not support for withdrawal, I can only conclude that McCain is right on this one and the fact checker has completely failed.

McCain deliberately brought this up to try to make Romney look bad because McCain is scared about the polls. Up until McCain told this lie - Romney was ahead. McCain lowered the playing field, dishonestly. I just hope the voters in Florida see through what McCain did. Who wants a president who is so underhanded and dishonest. I sure don't. You know what they say - if you can't trust a man on the small things in life, you definitely can't trust them on the big things. If they are dishonest - they will cheat whenever they need an advantage. But eventually people know and loss respect - just like we did for you John McCain.

Are you seriously suggesting that we shouldn't plan for withdrawal, period? Not all withdrawal plans are equal - I'm quite sure that Bush would have planned to withdraw the troops at some point, assuming the appropriate conditions were met.

Why McCain is distorting this is because Romney simply said that the President should plan an exit but keep it confidential. That's a good part of any war -and-other planning; that is, in fact, why the US Army didn't simply surge into Iraq proper after Gulf War I in 1991.

Anyone who has worked on any sort of project knows there are benchmarks, timelines, milestones to measure progress. This attack was lame and silly for McCain to engage in. The worst part is it is so transparent and blatantly false. I vote for someone who knows how to get projects done rather than bang one key on the keyboard "I was for the surge first!" Well, I was for eating ice cream first tonight in my house. Woop dee do.

They say when you get old, your memory is the first thing to go.....thus appears to be McCain's problem regarding what he thought Mitt Romney said, but can't articulate with accuracy....

I can't really defend Senator McCain here. Clearly, the ad was a distortion of Mitt Romney's quote. However, when you consider the kind of sleazy campaign Mitt has been running since Iowa, it seems kind of funny listening to them call foul now. If that's the kind of campaign you want to run fine, but you can't have it both ways.

The question was, "Do you believe that there should be a timetable in withdrawing the troops?" The question wasn't about whether it was public or not, and McCain's claim wasn't that it would be public. Isn't Roberts' question a Yes/No question, and wasn't Romney's answer a Yes? Why the Pinocchios?

McCain's last ditch effort worked in Florida but there will eventually backfire. It either proves he is senile and losing his memory or he is a dishonest and unfair player.

As Chuck Norris mentioned, McCains running mate has all the chances to become the President in 2010. Mc Cain does not have any charisma or personality. What did he achieve for Americans for all these years as a senator?

I think that McCain could have said it clearer. Yet, when Romney said that he has always been clear on his answer during the debate, I have to wonder why for a yes or no question, he did not say yes or no.

Yet, when he said timetables should be private and should not tell the Germans when you are going to leave, shouldn't it be reasonable for someone to say that he wanted timetables for withdrawal -- maybe not 60 days .. yet if Iraq was not going to meet goals, he infered he would consider withdrawling maybe (90 days, 1 year, or so). Isn't that what McCain was trying to say (not a great public speaker).

McCain issue is if you wanted to be the leader of the Country and Republican Party, you need to stand up and say exactly what you wanted to do. Romney had his chance and talked about you did not want the enemy to know when you were going to leave. Not, we are in this to win it thus why talk about timetables and leaving? It is one things to say, we need benchmarks and goals to show we are making progress. And say we got to do what ever it takes to support our troops to do it even if it is sending more (which was politically disaster at the time). Yet, Romney shied away - and now is saying he was always supported the surge (I guess we need to take his word though since it is not in his quote).

And, why talk about timetables and leaving which was the Democratic issue (get the hell out) if you sided with Bush and surge?

At first I thought McCain is taking this to an extreme. Yet, more I read it and thought what I think a leader should do (be clear, be forceful and have conviction), I did not see it in Romney's answer which is all McCain is trying to do (a little off though). By Romney even saying we consider timetables, in a time when withdrawal talks were very heated, one can only assume that he wanted out as well because what is at the end of anytime table? He did not have the balls to do what McCain did. He waffled and did not give a clear answer so that it would not come back to hurt him. I guess it did though. Yet, McCain should have let others do it for him who are more articulate.

What McCain should have said, he was the only one who publically supported Bush and surge. He was a leader and put his head on the chopping block. Romney talked about timetables and did not support the surge until later. It is similar to Democrates saying, we never wanted the war yet did not say so at the time.

From a leadership position, only McCain and Obama have the guts to say their conviction. Thus, in my mind, every candidate is up for fair game to be argued what they mean by they supported their current position when their talk was not straight and confusing. It is hard for me to believe Romney always supported the surge when he did not say "The timetables the Democrats support are wrong. We need timetables to get to our goal of a secure Iraq. Yet, to say we need to withdrawl now which the Democrats want in timetables, is not giving our troops the time to suceed."

I am relieved to find some comments which indicate there are individuals who can follow a stream of thought w/o getting lost in their own preconceived mindsets and also know how to use a dictionary for correct understanding of verbage.
I've been researching the exchange from which this dispute stems to discover what I might not have learned from the newscasts representation.
What I continue to find is a very direct question posed: "timetable for withdrawal"; and an answer that aims for both ends of the argument at once. Nonetheless, the answer given included "timetables not for public pronouncement" and "don't want the enemy....until you're gonna' be gone." The connection between the two is clear.
It is important to me to know the President will have the character and spine to take a stand w/conviction for the welfare of our nation and I don't want to be coddled or manipulated w/soft-sided, kid glove language because I am an adult and I hope my countrymen are as well. Therefore, I believe it to be an error to call McCain's attention to the matter unfair,low, mean-spirited, distorted, dirty politics, lame, silly, underhanded and various other terms. Which also directly relates to trustworthiness regarding "small things." I do not find a national war effort and/or the protection of our nation a "small thing." To equate eating ice cream w/a national war effort is not just strange but scary.
I sincerely believe Mitt Romney would make a very good president. He does, in fact, demonstrate many desireable qualities for such a role. However, given choices priorities must decide and reason deduces that were we to be harmed due to inferior protective resources (to include leadership), then no economy, good or bad, would matter at all.

M himself hasn't been real articulate, but in the CA debate i finally saw his point. Hate to try to get into R's head - he's for abortion, he's against it; he had no opinion on tax cuts, but he's for it; for gay marriage but against it. When a guy like that starts "talking vaguely" about a "war" I get real antsy. anyone can like or dislike either of these guys on their personality, but trying to elevate a guy because he's "talking vaguely" about war, i don't buy that.

I am a native of Arizona. I remember when John McCain moved here just to run for House of Representatives. He has more than his share of Pinocchio's here. In fact there are so many, people have tired of counting them. Personally, what I know of McCain is that he seems unstable and it scares me to think of him as president. He wants to be King.

I am voting for Mitt Romney. I like the way he works with people. We need civility and honesty in the White House.

Let's really save trees-let McCain's "nose" go to a quiet retirement home somewhere other than Washington or Arizona.

My friends, John McCain is a very angry man. It should at least be considered that his traumatic experience in Vietnam damaged him. Made him callous and basically unstable. He always strikes me as seething, on a permanent slow boil forever straining against the impulse to explode. What is this victory McCain constantly rails about? How will he actually accomplish it? On this vital question, as well as a host of others, McCain has been very cagey. He has yet to articulate a post-surge strategy. A strategy he so passionately endorsed. What's his position on an Afghanistan deteriorating rapidly? Another regrettable result of Bush policy. Again, he offers mostly platitudes and demagogic rhetoric.

I see John McCain as uniquely vulnerable. As a Democrat, I can only hope he is the Republican nominee.

As the first chapters began to build solidly on biblical themes I quickly realized this particular author was either seriously attempting to link legitimate patterns of bible prophecy, or he was using an even more clever deception to mislead me. This author surprisingly understood the procedure to outline proper types and shadows and stay within one context while linking proper biblical themes. Since the author was not spinning I suspected that he would postpone taking of his liberties until he would be forced into a corner having to demonstrate 9 - 11 towers falling and eagle's wings into modern Iraq.

To my surprise the transition was smooth and never broke context or prophetic flow. Not only was 9 - 11 coming straight from the Bible but almost every highly specific detail, including the number of planes that hit each target, was referenced in the Bible with numerous exact details specifically related to 9 - 11. This book does not just stop there, but continued to unwind the scenario of America going to Iraq spelling out the exact manner of Saddam's capture and execution. This was a highly unusual book! This book was based on what was written in the Bible and relied solely upon that premise. How do I react to this other than try to convince someone to read it and find out? I feel concerned that christians are so used to being tricked by each cry of wolf that when the real thing appears there will be a little comprehension that something amazing has occurred.
