Fairfax Chamber Launches Political Blog
The Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce announced today that it has started a new Weblog www.policysoup.blogspot.com called "PolicySoup," to provide an open discussion forum on the chamber's premier business advocacy program and all issues related to business and politics in the Commonwealth.
"PolicySoup" will offer members of the Northern Virginia business community and anyone else to comment on political and policy matters that affect Northern Virginia businesses. Updated daily, the blog can be found at www.policysoup.blogspot.com.
"The heart of effective advocacy is effective communications. As the rules of politics and effective communications continue to evolve, the Fairfax County Chamber is adapting to these new realities with initiatives like our PolicySoup blog to help empower our members understand the political landscape that impacts their companies, their communities and their families," said Chamber President & CEO William D. Lecos.
"PolicySoup will also help the Chamber's Government Affairs Department work to educate elected officials and their staff on the critical issues that matter most to the Northern Virginia business community," Lecos added.
PolicySoup was developed in response to an overwhelming response to stories in the Chamber's electronic newsletter, Advocacy Update. "We are thrilled to see the outpouring of interest in our actions as 'The Voice of Business in Northern Virginia' and I take personal satisfaction that our Chamber is using 21st century tools for a 21st century political landscape." Lecos concluded.
Although the initial blog post focuses on the upcoming statewide elections, "PolicySoup" will be the home of an array of business related political issues from endorsements to legislative actions.

The more the merrier! Someone pointed me to this earlier today and I have already posted a comment there.
I must say that I was dismayed that the PolicySoup blog blithely dismissed those questioning the wisdom of the MetroWest development (and the sale of WMATA land for this purpose with so many unanswered questions) as lacking "common sense." But I hope we can move beyond that sort of unproductive challenge and really engage on the merits of the issues.
There is a lot to talk about. Many thanks again to the Post for giving us this Blog to kick-start the debate. And everyone is also welcome at www.FairGrowthNetwork.org, the launch of which was the subject of one of the Post's first Fairfax Blogs: http://blogs.washingtonpost.com/fairfaxfocus/2005/09/antirail_group_.html#comment-9673712.
