5 Guys Build a Burger Chain
Washingtonpost.com readers' favorite hamburgers are about to become available to a whole lot of folks outside the Metro area. The Northern Virginia-born chain's franchising plan calls for 1,000 new stores, according to this Business section article .
We here at Focus on Fairfax really like our Five Guys burgers and fries. If you agree, or if you know of better burgers available in Northern Virginia, please let us know.

The popularity of "Five Guys" is completely beyond me. The last time I went there, to the Richmond Highway location, my very ordinary-tasting burger was burned, and the fries were so cold, limp and greasy that I couldn't eat them. The REAL best burger, which unfortunately isn't available except in the fringes of the DC metro area, is the "Cordon Bleu Burger" at Sheetz Made to Order--yep, those big Sheetz gas stations have restaurants in them, where you specify exactly what you want on your burger or hot dog, item by item, using a touch-screen ordering system. They're fast, too, and they use only Black Angus beef. Beats the heck out of 5G!

Yeah, the burgers are good at Five Guys, but those fries need some quality control. Too often they're overdone. I'd also like to see them put the burger(s) on top of the fries in the bag rather than under them. It's no fun trying to get to the burger through those hot fries. To solve this I always ask for the burger in a separate bag. Also, what's with the squished bun? I know they like to fry the bun on the grill, but do they have to squish it too?
