Connolly To Outline Environmental Proposals Tonight
In his televised State of the County address at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly (D) is set to provide details of an initiative that could put Fairfax at the forefront among U.S. counties who are providing incentives for businesses and private citizens to make environmentally-friendly choices. The details are in this front page article in today's Washington Post.

Connolly is a master politician. Said another way - look for lots of hot air and very little substance.
My main concern, knowing how Connolly operates, gets down to this: How much will this cost.

The Fairfax County budget shows that the County is only dressing its energy savings program in global warming clothes. Look for an explanation of what the County is really doing (and it is doing some good stuff) at next Monday's Environmental Committee meeting.
In the mean time, the Chairman is engaged in political engineering to position himself for his campaign. His plan will not shift any Fairfax County money into more global warming prevention than was already in play.
For more on this, take a look at TheHardLook.com which will be doing a careful review of his plans and a review of existing county activities (which reflect the County Executive, not the Board).
