A state law governing road and rail projects likely will afford the players in a Dulles rail project a large degree of secrecy with regard to the details of any plan they work out to move thee project forward, according to the latest in today's Metro section.

According to this article from today's Metro section, Gov. Kaine's opposition to the tunnel is likely to be fortified by the results of a new state study. Other officials say that they are preparing to move ahead without the tunnel and that, "the planning phase of this project is closed."

Virginia has until May of next year to submit a plan for a Metrorail extension to Dulles International Airport and still qualify for the current federal funding cycle, federal transit officials said yesterday. The news gives hope to backers of the tunnel option since one of the primary arguments against it had been that including a tunnel would delay the planning stage and jeopardize funds. Group Will Fund Metro Tunnel StudyA group of Fairfax County businesses and residents announced Friday that it has raised $3.5 million to pay for engineering plans showing the feasibility of running a Metrorail extension below ground through Tysons Corner instead of on an elevated track.
The group, organized by the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce and dubbed TysonsTunnel.org, is seeking to reverse a September decision by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) against a below-ground route for the four-mile stretch through Tysons.
The group is holding a meeting at 7 tonight at the Barns at Wolf Trap, 1635 Trap Rd., Vienna.

This weekend rent Fahrenheit 451 (filmed 1966). They have a great aerial rail system that would make Tysons look as cool as the Jetsons.
