County Kept Quiet on Rating For Building Inspections

An independent finding last year that Fairfax County's residential building inspectors were carrying workloads beyond their capacity to adequately do their jobs was not released publicly for 11 months. A front page article on the news is here.

This is very scarey...the truth is out...homes are flooding, house roof lines too tall, cracked walls, etc. I bet there are hundreds of complaints...

How many other departments are operating with lack of staff or overworked staff.

Connolly is completely out to lunch, unless you're homeless in Fairfax. I have to admit, he cares about them. The rest of us can pound sand. Recently, he came late to a town hall meeting, and missed all of the complaints about overcrowding, etc. When he said how wonderful Fairfax was, he was booed. Then, he decides to create a task force. Where will some of the staff come from? The section of the Dept. of Public Works and Environmental Services which is tasked with seeing that the County's codes are enforced. DPWES needs more staff to ensure the safety of this County. Playing musical chairs with staff isn't the way to do it.

I find it ironic that Fairfax County spends so much time and money preparing documents to win national awards in county management - yet it has has lost the trust and respect of its citizens. How can the richest county in the nation not have enough money to perform new home inspections and track developer promises? Relying on the outside watchdog agencies and neighbors to perform basic government services is a true abdication of government responsibility. So what are our taxes paying for anyway? Our supervisors are completely unresponsive to citizen complaints, as well
