Addition to South County Secondary: a Half-Measure?

Some Lorton-area residents have pushed for a new middle school to help alleviate overcrowding at South County Secondary School. According to this story from today's Metro section, a proposal from County Executive Anthony H. Griffin to add a wing to the secondary school to ease the problem is getting mixed reviews, seen by some as a more imperfect solultion than building a new school for seventh and eighth-graders.

Why is so much money being poured in to South County for their middle school when other schools are in desperate need of renovations like West Springfield High School? WSHS is literally crumbling or should I say sinking in to the ground and yet the school board and politicians, including Albo and Herrity, both WSHS alumni, turn their backs on the health and safety of the students to focus on building up wealthy and politically conncected neighborhoods. Why did we only receive 2 million in emergency funds when we were seeking priority on the CIP? WSHS is 17 YEARS over due for renovation. OMG! We actually have EMERGENCIES that require funding at WSHS and the school board and politicians put politics before the health and safety of students. Why was this not corrected? Why are newly renovated and under capacity schools such as Hayfield and Lake Braddock not on the table for this school board AND Board of Supervisors? Is
MOLD, ASBESTOS, SEWAGE, COLLASPING HALLWAYS and EXPLODING windows not a priority over overcrowding? Anyone?
