Beltway Lanes Reopen in Virginia

All lanes on the Virginia side of the Wilson Bridge have reopened following an emergency paving job that had two of them shut this afternoon.

At about 5 pm., crews completed emergency pavement repairs to a small area on the inner loop near the Route 1 interchange, just west of the Wilson Bridge.

Two right lanes on the inner loop and the exit ramp to Telegraph Road North and South were temporarily closed.

Tonight was the worst traffic I've seen in a long time going north on I-295 to I-395 south and across the 14th st bridge. (1 hour 45 minutes from Bolling AFB to the 14th St Bridge via S. Capitol, M St, and Maine Ave) At first I thought it was folks trying to get home early for Halloween, but after reading this article, I think it was folks bailing out from the Beltway and Wilson Bridge.

I have seen signs that there will be major delays this weekend, what are they doing?

The nightmare on the inner loop of the Beltway last night (Oct 31) was unbelievable. We're talking four stopped/barely moving lanes of traffic from the BW Parkway all the way to the Wilson Bridge. My usual 25 minute trip took 1-1/2 hours. In these days of exhorbitant gas prices, someone should be held accountable for this fiasco. I've never seen anything like it in my entire 54 years of driving.

That spot on the Inner Loop in Alexandria on the Va. side of the Wilson Bridge continues to be a problem. There seems to be repeated problems with sink holes and paving issues. With the drainage problems and the sandy soil beneath the highway, one has to wonder about the long term stability of the project.
