Metro Adding Holiday Service

The transit authority plans to add service to and from the region's three main airports during Thanksgiving week. The final details still were being worked out, so check Metro's Web site for updates, but here's the basic idea.

For the peak of the holiday rush on Wednesday and the weekend, buses will be added to the B30 line between Greenbelt and BWI Airport. As you walk out of the Greenbelt Metro station, turn left and look for the shelter with the B30 marking. The fare is $3.

For travelers heading to and from Dulles Airport, there will be extra service during the peak period on the 5A line, which originates at L'Enfant Plaza Station. The fare also is $3 for the express service.

For Reagan National Airport travelers: Metro plans to add two more trains on the Yellow Line on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. to make the trip between the airport and Mount Vernon Square. This is a great addition for holiday travelers. Metro has the extra capacity to do this on a Sunday, and if there's any Sunday when it's needed, we're looking at it. Rail ridership at National Airport on a typical November Sunday last year was 5,947, but it spiked to 10,489 on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

Here's a link to a page on Metro's Web site that displays all the rail and bus line maps.

Have a safe trip.

I'm pretty sure the author doesn't read the comments on his blog here, but he should be aware that the fare on the B30 (and likely the 5A, I'm not sure) is only $2.10 if you use your SmarTrip card while transferring from Metro Rail.

Not sure why he didn't link to the press release, but here it is:

Air travelers can reach the airport by riding Metro's Blue and Yellow lines. On Thanksgiving Day, Metrorail will operate on a Sunday schedule, opening at 7 a.m., and closing at midnight.

On Sunday, November 25, Metrorail will operate extra Thanksgiving trains between the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Mt. Vernon Sq/7th St-Convention Center Metrorail stations from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The extra trains will operate every 15 minutes and will supplement Metro's Sunday Blue and Yellow Line trains which operate every 15 minutes from the ends of each line.

The Washington post needs to dedicate more tech savvy staff to commuter issues and stories.

The blog seems to be very second thought and I believe that the traffic blog is a cheap, and easy, but crummy way of dealing with real issues that most people care about much more than lets say...

This log is an improvement over the old Dr. Gridlock. We get more info, more often. However, I sometimes wish that we would get daily posts rather than a couple of times a week.

dkf747, agreed. There are many other bloggers on the Washington Post site that post multiple times a day even. It's rare for that to occur on this blog, even when there is some major traffic or metro issue that should get posted up on here as a way to alert the public, ha but the post actually reporting the news in a timely manner may be too much to ask for.

More or less nothing seems important. I've just been letting everything happen without me recently. I can't be bothered with anything recently, but such is life. My life's been generally bland today. Not much on my mind these days, but eh.

I can't be bothered with anything recently. I've just been sitting around doing nothing. Today was a loss. I just don't have much to say. Nothing seems worth thinking about.
