Traffic Delays in Downtown DC
The District Department of Transportation has issued a traffic alert for the afternoon and evening:
"Mobile protests that began early this morning are expected to last into and beyond the evening rush hour. Large and small groups of demonstrators are continuing to intermittently block intersections along K Street between 13th and 17 th Streets, NW.
"Delays and detours are expected. Motorists are advised to avoid the area."
The protests against the Iraq war are described in a story on our Web site.

Please save the "idiot" remark for the people who voted for the evil that launched the war.

I voted for President Bush. Therefore, you, Tim, are calling me an idiot. Will the Post fairly enforce its rules against ad hominem attacks?

Whatever the merits of the protests - is there some reason why MPD can't direct traffic? Earlier today I walked by a group of protesters sitting in the street at K and Connecticut. There had to be 200 MPD officers standing around watching and not a single one of them bothered to direct the hapless drivers who were trapped on K Street. Same old story with the MPD.

Antagonizing people (such as by blocking the road) does not strike me as a brilliant way to gain support for one's cause.
But with that said, this is not the place to discuss the merits or demerits of anyone's position on the war. It's a place to discuss TRAFFIC. Unfortunately, %#$& WTOP online decided to rebuffer right as Marbourg came on at 17.58. #$*#$....guess I'll head out and listen to the XM report.

Is there some reason MPD can't arrest the protesters for obstructing traffic? I have no problem with them hanging out in Farragut Square and chanting inane slogans, but if I went out and sat in the middle of K street just for the heck of it, I'd be arrested for sure. What gives these guys and gals the right to get a free pass?

So.... Does anyone in Washington consider protesters as anything other than an inconvienience?
I mean really... Seeing as how its DC, do they actually think people pay attention in this city? No matter what the cause?
IMO the only reason to Protest here in DC is if you either want to get arrested or get your picture in the paper? Or both?
Lawmakers, residents and local activists pay no heed to protests anymore... Just the nature of the beast.
Much like crying WOLF, it loses its effect but nobody told them... Maybe we should post it on a blog somewhere... Great Idea!

I voted for John Kerry and the rest of the Democrats that supported the war. Therefore, you, Tim, are calling me an idiot. Will the Post fairly enforce its rules against ad hominem attacks?

If they are in the road and the lights say they shouldn't be, run them all down, let their blood flow in the streets. Let them pay the price that has been paid by others so that they can be a useless waste of space.
The MPD won't do anything, it might delay their donut breaks.

"Will the Post fairly enforce its rules against ad hominem attacks?"
The only time I've seen that enforced was a recent thread on this blog when some idiot called regular poster Laura a "kittycat" (revised spelling). It was justifiably deleted.

Rich, was that post aimed at me? I must have missed it before it was deleted. Ah well, sticks and stones...
Posted by: Laura | March 20, 2008 12:38 PM
I assumed so because it began "Laura, don't be such a ...." As I said, stupid. Takes a really big man to slag people off from a computer keyboard...
Posted by: Rich | March 20, 2008 1:14 PM
Or a really big pussy
Posted by: Laura | March 20, 2008 2:15 PM
Why are there "regular posters" here? Don't you people have jobs?
Posted by: Ricky | March 20, 2008 2:16 PM
Don't expect the Post to enforce anything, losers.

Oh, my commute may be mildly disrupted... now I'm definitely against the war! What incredibly persuasive action by these demonstrators!
Idiots.
