The Weekend and Beyond
Here are some tips that might help you plan your travels.
Beltway Delays
Drivers should avoid the Capital Beltway around the Branch Avenue interchange from Saturday night until early Sunday afternoon, as the Maryland State Highway Administration sets steel for a ramp over the highway. Delays are likely to be extensive.
If you're traveling long distance, consider using the western side of the Beltway or heading east to Route 301.
Douglass Bridge Closure
After initial tests on the South Capitol Street bridge's swing span
Friday evening, the District Department of Transportation has decided that more testing in necessary.
So the bridge will close again at 10 p.m. Saturday and is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Sunday.
Track Work Resumes
After a month off for busy local travel periods, Metro has restarted its endless weekend track maintenance program. Delays are occurring on the Red, Blue, Yellow and Orange lines through Sunday.
Rock Creek Parkway
The National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration are in the final phase of the year-long reconstruction of Rock Creek Parkway between P Street and Virginia Avenue.
This weekend, workers are repaving along the southbound curb lane and ramps at P Street, K Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. All the ramps should reopen in time for Monday morning's rush. The right lane should reopen by late Tuesday.
The entire project is scheduled for completion in May.
Beulah Road Reopened
Beulah Road, an important route north of Maple Avenue in Vienna, has reopened a month ahead of schedule and the detour is over.
VDOT's road improvements, begun last year, included work on sidewalks, curbs, crosswalks and drainage.
Ride On Changes
The Montgomery County bus system has made these schedule changes.
Route 98 weekdays: New service along Father Hurley Boulevard, continuing on Waterford Hills Boulevard to the Ashmore development.
Route 30 Saturdays: Service eliminated.
Route 36 Saturdays: Service eliminated.
Route 90 Saturdays: Service reduced by two hours.
Route 98 Sundays: Service eliminated.
Ride On Fare Hearing
The Montgomery County Council is holding a public hearing about Ride On fares on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the 7th Floor Hearing Room, Council Office Building, 100 Maryland Ave., Rockville.
14th Street Bridge Repairs
Starting Monday, the District Department of Transportation will be doing some overnight repairs on the northbound lanes. There will be some delays, because up to three lanes will be shut during the four nights of work from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.
