Emergency on NY Avenue NE
New York Avenue is likely to be a mess this weekend. The District Department of Transportation just issued this statement:
At 10 o'clock this morning two inbound lanes on New York Avenue NE between Fairview Avenue and the 9th Street-Brentwood Parkway ramp closed indefinitely because of a broken storm sewer.
Repairs will begin after the heavy rain leaves the area and crews can work. DDOT expects the inbound lanes will be closed throughout the weekend.

The storm sure made commuting difficult. VRE and MARC had many delayed trains and some cancellations. How was your trip?

Hooray! Dr. G checks in with MARC and VRE riders again.
The MARC 845 didn't do so terribly this morning, all things considered. A few minutes late arriving in Washington. I'll take it, compared to what others endured today. Kudos to the crew, who did their darnedest to keep us informed of the delays and options available - making sure we knew that Metro was honoring MARC tix, and also letting us know that while we might be held up, it may not be too long of a hold up (some single tracking). Also, no ticket collection this morning because of the system-wide problems. Gee, Metro, MARC's got it's flaws and all, but that's one thing they got right. Time to follow the example instead of offering those lame, pithy "regrets for the inconvenience."
