New York Avenue Lanes Open
All the lanes on New York Avenue NE have reopened, the District Department of Transportation announced late this afternoon.
Crews have completed repairs to the slope failure that began on Friday and the three lanes in the 1100 and 1200 blocks of the avenue are back in business.

Didn't they remove a number of trees from that very embankment, along the inbound lane of NY Ave, sometime this past winter? I don't know how thick the stand of trees and vegetation was, but it had been dense enough to obscure the unattractive railroad/industry landscape below.
Landscaping 101 tells you that trees and other vegetation are important for stabilizing soils. That said, I guess my question would be: What *were* they thinking?
