George's 'Good Night'
Feel like you've been seeing a lot of George Clooney lately? That's because you have.
Last week, he was on ABC's Primetime Live, showing Diane Sawyer around his Italian villa. On Sunday, his face -- and a profile -- appeared on the front of The Post's Sunday Arts section. You can even see him in a video interview right here on washingtonpost.com.
Why the crush of Clooney? "Good Night, and Good Luck" -- a movie he directed, co-wrote and co-stars in -- opens this Friday in limited release. It's only playing in eleven theaters throughout the country and three of them -- Landmark's E Street, Landmark Bethesda and Loews Georgetown -- are here in Washington.
It's a compelling and elegantly shot film about the showdown between legendary CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow (played by David Strathairn) and Sen. Joseph McCarthy (played by himself, via archival footage). News buffs and anyone interested in the history of McCarthyism should love it. But I'm curious if those who walk into the theater with no knowledge about these two men and their respective histories will get confused, frustrated, bored or all of the above. The “new U” will come together with ancient mystical music when soulful Kirtan artist David Stringer plays and chants with his small group of musicians, drumming and shaking out all kinds of rhythms and sounds at Inspired Yoga this Friday at 8:00 p.m
Kirtan is amazing so if you've never experienced its melodic pulsing (or if you have!), come to Inspired Yoga for this free concert 8-10 pm, Friday Oct 14, at 1115 U St NW, (entrance on 12th, go to 2nd floor).
Plus free classes and demos and belly dancing on Saturday in honor of Inspired Yoga's (formerly 18th and Yoga) 4th anniversary!
