Club Down
It's been a tough couple of weeks for fans of cheesy nightlife fun. Lulu's Club Mardi Gras, the Washington instution that everyone hated to love, the place which had become synonymous with college functions, bachelorette parties and under-21 events, will host its last dance party this Friday before permanently shutting its doors. This comes on the heels of last weekend's closings of Polly Esther's and Tequila Beach, two other spots to shake it on the d-floor. The neighboring night spots closed to make way for new development on the block. When I spoke with a manager at Polly Esther's this morning, he said that they have no set plans to relocate, but hope to find a new space somewhere in the near future.
Lulu's is a casualty of renovations to the former site of Blackie's restaurant next door. The venerable dance club and bar will go out with a bang this Friday, its final night in business. The club will host an open bar with rail drinks, domestic and imported beer from 8 p.m.-3 a.m. with dancing until 4 a.m. for a $20 cover. There will be open bar from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., and the club itself will be open until 4 a.m. The closure comes as a shock to fans so soon after Lulu's hosted a rocking Kegs & Eggs party with O.A.R. that had lines around the block.
Have a favorite alternate dance spot? Where will you go to rock your socks off?

I just felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of frat boys suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

By the way, College Nights in Baltimore have also been cancelled. (The Baltimore Sun has a story about this in today's issue and on their website.) Legislators have banned college nights due to "problems with underage drinking" etc. Also, Bar Baltimore has closed. So there are very few options in Baltimore now, too.

Wonderland is a fab place to shake it down. Always great music and a cool, laid back crowd. You really can dance like no one is watching.

Clarendon Grill is & has always been the place to be on the weekends. Just across the bridge into VA you cannot beat the scene in Clarendon, it's the next best thing to DC nightlife

Clarendon Grill is great if you're 29 and up. Its not exactly the same crowd that goes to Lulu's and Tequila Beach. Both places are nice if you know what you're getting into. The club without the crazy prices and a more 'fun' (not to be seen) atmosphere

For electronic music, you must go to Cubik at Nation on Friday nights. They have an awesome lineup for the next few months! The downside? Nation is closing its doors on July 16.

Recently moved to D.C. For over 30 crowd, what are fun bars/clubs/dance clubs for professionals to meet in DC or NVA? Most places seem for under 30 crowd.

Sigh...6 great years of going to Polyethers and listening to non-stop 80s such as Billy Idol, Guns N Roses, and even Culture Club...Who will hold my hands down in the event of a fight? Who will pour me a rum n coke? What will happen to Luke the bartender? To the owners of Pollys - Reopen and fary, ferg, unger, and the dunger will make it worth while!

Just went to Uncle Jed's (Old Georgetown at Wisc. Ave., Bethseda) website and discovered that the bar has closed.
Anyone know what happened? and when?
Last time through there was some construction that appeared to be unrelated to U.J., but it certainly obscured the location more.
P.S. anyone know of Bethesda bar showing hockey?
TIA

Have no fear, if you miss Luc, the French bartender at Polly Esther's, he can be found in a much more humble location: a Bethesda bar that is owned by the same person that owned Tequila Beach/Polly Esther's. Luc is one of a few bartenders that works at Union Jacks on Saturday night in Bethesda. Visit him and shout out, "Vive la Polly Esther's!!!"

Anyone know of a good place to go dancing in Bethesda, MD?

Yeah, I miss Pollys too, I hope the open up soon, but not too far from where it was?
And as for the guy over 30crowd/professionals, you should go to the Double Tree Hotel in Crystal City, the have a rotating circular Bar/Club all over the top, where you can appreciate the most beautifull of DC. Downside? you'll probably meet bypassers! oh well, ces't la vie

This is very sad!!!! Are you sure Tequila Beach has also closed?? Very sad news for people like me, who enjoy college nights. Is Platinum still open, at least? I expect this will translate into bigger college crowds at Platinum and Fur, since people are out of options. (Mind you, Platinum is no longer the consistent 18+ club that it once was: Saturdays are now 21+.)
Gurus do you know if there are any new clubs slated to open soon to fill this void?
