Panda Love
On Thursdays, there are some Got Plans? questions that we just don't get to before the chat ends. As I was looking through the unanswered questions at 2:06 p.m. yesterday, this question really bummed me out:
Petworth: Hi Gurus! So, I'm taking a day off tomorrow, and we're going to hit the zoo. I know, the new trail won't be open yet, but this is when works. Will we be able to visit the panda? Who won't we be able to see?
Man, I wish I had gotten to that one in time!
As Petworth probably found out today, until the Asia Trail opens, panda viewing is a little bit different. From the Zoo's Web site:
"The giant pandas will not be on exhibit between 8 and 10 a.m., when they will be getting acclimated to the new areas of the Fujifilm Giant Panda Habitat, opening to the public on October 17. In addition, the pandas will not be viewable if they choose to go inside, as the indoor area will be closed until then."
So if you choose to go to the Zoo this weekend, don't count on seeing the panda. You also won't be able to see the sloth bears. Clouded leopards, Japanese salamanders, fishing cats and small-clawed otters are also off-limits.
The good news for animal lovers is that as part of the renovation, the zoo has now installed 25 new Web cams. Not all are fully operational, yet, but you can certainly get your panda fix here.

Hey, that was my question - and we DID get to see all 3 pandas, as they were outside in the afternoon.
No sloth bears though. Now I have to go back - not really a hardship.
