In the annual Scholastic art competition, established as part of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in 1923 by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Fairfax schools have aggressively pursued awards by setting up a regional clearinghouse. The work of 113 regional Gold Key winners for 2006 will be sent to New York, where it will be judged against entries from the rest of the country.
