Question Five: Potter Plans

The release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is now just hours away. In the Washington, D.C. area, plenty of Potter parties are scheduled for this evening. How will you commemorate this literary milestone? Will you be in line at your local bookstore, a temporary tattoo of a lightning bolt plastered across your forehead? Or will you wait until the crowds wane before making your wizard connection?

Share your plans, and your memories of previous Potter parties, below.

I ordered my book back in February, so I'll be waiting until 10 a.m. Saturday to start reading it. I had the book sent to my sister's; my husband will be in charge of watching our three year-old until Sunday while I read the book on my sister's couch. My husband and I will then trade off so that he too can read it.

I picked my wrist band early this morning so I don't have to wait in line. I have a white burgundy chilling as I type...HEY I grew up with Harry, and will be sad to see him go!

I can't go to a potter party because I am homeless and look like a witch in real life, but I can get mail and so I already ordered my copy and I'm counting down the hours till it comes.

I am SURE Snape is a double agent and a good guy! I predict he will die heroically to allow harry to kill voldemort. Remember, you read it here first!!!

I've had my copy reserved since December 24! I work at Barnes & Noble, and landed the role of Hermione for our midnight magic party. It's going to be so much fun!! I've got an awesome costume (courtesy of Goodwill) and can't wait to get my copy. I've been reading Harry Potter since I was eight, and I'm terrified, sad, and elated, all at the same time.

I will wait to the line clear out.

I'll be at Deathly Hallows Eve celebration in Old Town Alexandria!! A huge extravaganza presented by A Likely Story bookstore and the merchants of King St. 8-12 tonight!

I love both Harry Potters--the young wizard, and the grizzled old colonel, Harry Potter, of MASH tv fame.

Watch Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone starting now, followed by a quick nap (but we'll be too excited to sleep), and then a midnight party where we'll get the new book.
We'll read the first chapter with our mom after the party, and then go to sleep (maybe). Tomorrow, we'll read all day with our mom.

I have written about Harry and will write about him again. The Boy Who Lived says everything. He represents the indomitable will to live in the face of evil and stupidity. This book will far outlast all the writings of all the people who currently work for the Washington Post and the New York Times. The editors of Triquarterly will be dust long before people have forgotten Harry Potter. The achievement of this book surpasses Peter Pan and is equal in many ways to the Lord of the Rings. Of course the lit snobs will poopoo that now, but check the reviews for Tolkien in the fifties. I was there. I remember it all. Rawlings is the real thing: a writer that changed the world. Stick that in your craw and whine about it.

After reading aloud all six books of the Harry Potter series to my four children (my husband, dog, cat etc.), I am anxious to dig into the Deathly Hallows. I am also melancholy about the end of such a wonderful fantasy world and I loathe bidding good-bye to such an interesting group of characters. I hope, however, that Ms Rowling has not tired of the art of writing, and I hope that she shares her gift with us again.

I ordered it online. It's supposed to come on the 21st...I will be impatiently waiting and watching for UPS all day...Until I get it I'm cutting myself off from the outside world so I don't hear anything about it.

I preordered my book through Amazon, in February. The post office says it will be in my PO Box tomorrow morning at 9:30. I'll be there at 9 (just in case) I have all of tomorrow reserved for the book -- no household duties will be done, no shopping, no cooking. Just me and Harry Potter.
I am 57 years old and a total HP fan.
