Pre-Thanksgiving Planning
On this day before Thanksgiving, many of us (ok, me) are trapped in the kitchen getting ready. If you're feeling anxious, please take a look at the tips, stories, recipes and video on this Web site and e-mail us your questions.
As for me, I'm dicing squash and steaming green beans before I head to Wagshal's, my neighborhood butcher, to pick up my turkey. My-in-laws arrive at about 5 p.m. and later tonight, we'll all set the dining room table for tomorrow's meal.
When I was growing up in New York, my mother cooked Thanksgiving dinner every year. My two grandmothers came and so did my aunt, uncle and two cousins. Unfortunately my parents and my grandmothers have all passed away and I now live six hours from my other relatives. But I'm developing new customs with my husband and two young children. Anyone going through something similar? If so, read Terri Sapienza's story in tomorrow's Home section about establishing traditions. I really identified with it.

Having distance between you & the relatives may not be all bad; we moved to Washington, leaving both sides of the family in California. Thanksgiving started with a collection of work, neighborhood & church friends, and grew over the years into a fairly stable multi-family potluck...frankly, we enjoyed it much more than the traditional family fracas. When life gives you lemons...make margaritas!

Dear Liz: How can you steam your green beans one day in advance and keep them crisp? Share you recipe with us. And good luck with the inlaws...
