Gift Ideas

Is there some sort of protocol for giving things to resident-manager types in apartment complexes? Ours has been particularly helpful, especially when we moved in, with fixing (& then replacing) our stove and helping us find the breaker box outside when the power went out (unrelated). Roomie and I are thinking we should drop some token off to him and his family as a thank-you, but we're not sure of *what.* Ideas?

I grew up in an apartment building and every year we gave the building superintendent the same present: money. How much you give depends on your relationship and your income. If you are uncomfortable giving cash, what about a gift card to Best Buy or Circuit City? They are pretty much universal.

If your budget is very small, why not bake some holiday bread or other treat? I think a homemade gift is a sincere way of showing appreciation.
