The Capitol's Music: Go-Go Music in the D.C. Area by Brittany Morris

Go-Go is music that only if you're from D.C. you can understand. There are congas, bells, drums, pianos- all types of instruments. Go-Go is best when it's performed live. Go-Go is the music of D.C, originated in D.C, and only the best in the capitol of the U.S. Go-Go involves a group of people playing different instruments, some on the mic, playing songs we hear on the radio but just a little differently than you expect. Go-Go music was founded in the D.C area in the mid to late 70s. Chuck Brown had a crowd jumper in 1978 with the single "Bustin Loose." Go-Go has inspired many artists in our time. In the 1980s Salt-N-Pepa was influenced by Go-Go with their song "Shake Your Thang." Also, "Rollin with Kid-N-Play by Kid-N-Play was influenced by Go-Go music. Music you'll probably remember like "Crazy in Love" by Beyonce or "One Thing" by

School Improvement by Shykira Cox

At Anacostia Senior High School we have a lot of problems. We have students getting suspended and we have low test grades. I think this school is in need of improvement. The reasons why I believe this school needs improvement are because children are getting suspended and missing out on class work, students are failing, and the school is dirty. The first reason this school needs improvement is because children are getting suspended and missing out on class work. Students should not get suspended because it's like a vacation to them. They will not change their ways. Instead of putting them out of school for suspension, we should have in school suspension. In that way, students can still have good grades. The second reason why I believe this school needs improvement is because students are failing. If you come to school every day there is no reason you should fail.

Who's Got Band? by Margaret Parker

Behind every great school is a great band. Anacostia High is no exception. The director of this band is Keith Killgo. A talented musician in his own right, Mr. Killgo has organized a band of over 50 students. Over the past couple of months this band has been consistently practicing for homecoming. Several sections make up the organization of the entire band. These sections are the banner carriers, the majorettes, the dancers, the drummers, and the flag girls. The band has been practicing rigorously for homecoming. The practices were held every day after school from 3:30 until 6:30. During practice, they consistently went over their routines for homecoming. The band prepared several routines that would take place throughout homecoming week. On Thursday, the band will perform at the pep rally. This will be the bands first time being introduced to the school as the representing band for Anacostia. Friday the

Anacostia Senior High School Team by Bill Herndon

Anacostia SHS football team has some very good players on there team. Its just sometimes they have trouble playing their parts. I did an interview on one of their players Xavier Ezell who plays T.E. and I asked him some questions like, "what is your teams record" "2, 2" he said which means they won 2 and lost 2 games. The two teams we that we beat were McKinley Tech and Cardozo SHS. The Coaches of The Anacostia Indians are Head Coach Stu, and Coach Rob. The offensive coaches are Coach Terry, and Coach Tuck. Defensive Coaches are Coach Thomas and Coach Ty. I ask my man X-games about how he felt about their coaching and he said "Oh well they all have good coaching skills sometimes they just call the wrong plays, but you know how that goes everybody makes mistakes." I asked, " So what's the practice hours

Football Fans by Jonathon Rood

This article is about football fans and I wrote it. I am a Dallas Cowboys fan because they have good teamwork. I also like them because of how they play. Lots of people in my family like the Cowboys. Football fans collect jerseys, hats, key chains, and necklaces of their favorite players. They also get photos of their players signed. Lots of people are football fans. I know what it's like to be a football player because I used to play. I played defense, so I know that it's tough. I don't play football any more but I watch it on T.V. I know that sometimes people get hats, jerseys, and everything for free. Some people get their photos and papers signed from their team. Football fans like their teams. Some people like The Dallas Cowboys. Some people need to watch football on T.V or get out to the game.

Anacostia S.H.S Volleyball Team by Miyosha Jefferson

Anacostia S.H.S is located on the rough side of D.C where outsides looking in quickly turn their noses up and judge young teens. They believe kids to amount to nothing because of where they live and mistake they made earlier in life. The kids that attend Anacostia SHS have a chance to prove the outsiders wrong by joining the after school programs. There are numerous things to do after school and the most popular thing is sports. Right now its track, football and volleyball season, I did a short interview on the volleyball. The Anacostia Indians volleyball team is very close they're more nice sisters. The coach, Ms. Covington, is a good coach she helps her players on and off the court. Right now the season is just getting started. Their record right now is 3-5. The Indians have a great starting six; they have 4 seniors and 2 juniors

Exercise by Kathy Cannon

Why do people exercise? Do people not like to exercise because it makes you feel nasty? People at Anacostia S.H.S exercise because it is healthy to do. If you don't exercise and keep on eating you will gain weight around your heart and pass away. Some people exercise to look good for boys. I think you should not exercise to look good for boys because if boys don't like you for who you are then you should leave them alone. I know that I exercise to stay healthy and keep in shape for my own good. Why do people exercise to stay healthy? One Anacostia student, Tevin Jenkins, said, "I exercise so I wouldn't get fat." Another person named Tadrea Mathis said, "I exercise to be healthy and to be fit and look good for my soul mate." Another student named Shanell Brown said, "We exercise so we can stay
