On November 1, 2007, the American Legion #60 in Laurel, MD had the honor to present DuVal's own Deputy Coward for the Public Safety Officer of the Year in Sheriff Office.
Coward has been working at DuVal High School for two years. She has helped with the security of the students and staff as well as the safety around school campus.
"My duty is to maintain a safe establishment for DuVal, and that is why I love my job!" said Deputy Coward. "I want to bring more extracurricular activities to DuVal," said Coward . "I need more parents to come and support their children, especially to those in the E.S.O.L program."
Her goal is to have students participate and interact in these activities in order to create a positive atmosphere for the community and future. The Public Safety Award is Deputy's first award honored to her.
"She wants the best for Duval, and will do whatever it takes to accomplish that," said Junior Preston Kindred.
Deputy Coward is highly grateful for her job and is continuing to take charge at DuVal.
