An Old School Senator Takes Petraeus to Task
Sen. John Warner (R-Va.), who recently said he plans to retire next year, is going to missed. He actually is asking a very sharp set of questions, without making a show of it.
Noting that Petraeus recently said in a letter to his troops that political reconciliation hadn't worked out this summer in Iraq as he had hoped, Warner asked, "on what facts did you predicate that hope that you had?"
Petraeus blamed his predecessors. As to why he stated it, Petraeus explained, "I needed to level with our troops."

Wow! Sen. Warner is kicking ass and taking names! This is just what I've been waiting for - someone to put these 2 in the hot seat.
Go, Senator, go!

Senator Warren!!!....Great Noble Moment ...please write about this for all that missed it...and this was the most appropriate and important question to ask on 9/11 2007/// "Is the country safer" by continuing the course in Iraq...note General Petraeus asserted he did not know nor was it a question he ever asked himself

Tom,
first thanks for your commentary on these hearings, they have been most insightful. As you note, "Petraeus blamed his predecessors," which is what all have done. The only non-predecessor/constant has been our president, when will one of these guys have the chutzpah to state what 2/3rds of the public already knows. I wonder if the general's dissertation included any reference to Alice in Wonderland, as it seems that this is the land he is surging around.

And when will he start leveling with us? Is this "genius" to be believed when he says he never asked himself if all this was making America safer?

Exactly, jmsbh! When will anyone who gets his/her paycheck from the Federal Govt start leveling with their employers?
