Lieberman Collects Quotes for Future Iraq Debates?

Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.), who broke with the Democratic Party over the Iraq war, just used a series of questions to get answers that I expect will be quoted in future congressional debates.

"I would say on this battlefield you have gained considerable ground" in the last two days of hearings, Lieberman began.

The senator asked the general what he would think of Congress taking his recommendations for troop cuts next year, which Petraeus unveiled yesterday, and turning them into requirements.

"I would be uncomfortable with that," Petraeus said. He added that he wouldn't want to be "locked into a timetable like that."

Are you at all concerned at Leiberman's attempts to gin up a war with Iran? Pat Buchanan states that there will be a major effort by the neocons in September to justify military action against Iran. Is this part of the effort?

We couldn't attack Iran if we wanted to. We are stretched so thin, we can barely make ends meet. That's why, regardless of the situation, the "surge" will be scaled back in the Spring/Summer. Not enough troops. If Iran were on the table, we wouldn't have enough to send in a platoon of soldiers.

I don't pay any attention to Lieberman. He's one of those senators who is simply so terribly impressed with himself and whatever he has to say. Instead of being at the hearings in person, all we need is a cassette tape player so someone from his staff can just pop in a tape of his last speach or something...then move on the next senator.

Joe Lieberman has become such an embarrassment. It is clear he prepped these questions with Petreaus beforehand. As to Petreaus, I have no doubt that he is a fine military strategist, however, when he included all the administration's years long cliched talking points in his opening rmarks, it was clear he has joined the ranks of Gen. Westmoreland during the Vietman era of placing his career above the good of the troops and the country.

If we were to attack Iran, it wouldn't be with soldiers. It would be with airplanes and missiles. But it won't happen anyway until they nuke Israel.

Based on the terrible track record of this administration as well as the neocon hold on the vice-president's office, I would not put any effort to bomb Iran beyond them. They are just that dumb.

Teresa is right!!
In case anyone was fooled into believing Petraeus-Crocker is anything more than a dog-and-pony show it is instructive to note that the ONLY "exclusive" live interview of Martin and Lewis...er, Petraeus and Crocker WAS ON FOX NEWS LAST NIGHT. Brit Hume practically read his questions from a sheet of White House talking points. The only "read-between-the-lines" news of the hour was that the Baghdad Buddies were laying the groundwork for attacking Iran, using words like "troubling," and "non-constructive," to highlight Iranian support of the VERY CENTRAL GOVERNMENT THAT THE UNITED STATES SET UP AND THAT BUSH CONTINUES TO SUPPORT.
Meanwhile, at the same time on CNN, brilliant reporter and truth-teller Michael Ware was pointing out that the arming and training of the former Sunni insurgents in al Anbar was actually an AMERICAN effort to SEND A MESSAGE TO al Maliki and Iran? In other words, we are in the early stages of creating a "Bay of Pigs"-like insurrection against the government WE CREATED just so Cheney and his Bawdy Band of Neocon-fused Nuts can continue their plundering of the Middle East following the first rule of Neo-confusion: If it ain't broke, BREAK IT!
