A Good Day for Yardwork
The schedule for our local teams this week is hitting TFBO2F like the matchup zone Syracuse used to upset No. 1 Johns Hopkins in the 2004 semifinals. Like Bucknell's 10-man ride hit Maryland a few years ago. Like the quarterfinals usually hit Georgetown.
Anyway, somehow, incredibly, none of the locals has a home game on Saturday.
Maryland and Virginia play in the ACC semifinals in Charlottesville on Friday. Navy plays Colgate in the Patriot League semifinals in West Point, N.Y., also on Friday.
On Saturday, Georgetown plays at Rutgers (though it's on CN8) and Loyola plays at Hobart. Johns Hopkins gives us a Wednesday night game against Towson, but takes away a Saturday game to play Mount St. Mary's on Monday.
The closest local games on Saturday are Siena at Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m. and Penn at Towson at 1 p.m. It reminds us of the line ESPN's Chris Fowler used on "College GameDay" a few years ago when he noted that Alabama and Auburn both were off on the same Saturday: "It's the biggest day for weddings in state history."
Anyway, here's an early look at the two tournaments.
ACC Tournament
Maryland vs Virginia
Klockner Stadium, Charlottesville. Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: Single-session--$13 reserved, $10 general admission, $8 general admission youth. All session--$28 reserved, $25 general admission, $20 youth.
Records: Terrapins 8-4, Cavaliers 11-2.
Notable: The first game, between North Carolina and Duke, is at 5 p.m.
Championship: Sunday, 3:30 (Comcast SportsNet)
Patriot League Tournament
Navy vs. Colgate
Michie Stadium, West Point, N.Y. Friday, 7 p.m.
Tickets: Semifinals--$6 adult, $4 youth 18-under, free for any student from participating school with current school ID. (Tickets for the final are $10 adult, $5 youth and for any student from participating school.)
Records: Midshipmen 9-4, Red Raiders 7-5
Notable: Army faces Bucknell in the first game, at 4 p.m.
Championship: Sunday, 2 p.m. (CBS College Sports).
With no great local games, what will TFBO2F readers do on Saturday? Agonize over the most recent Laxpower NCAA tournament projections that have your team playing Hopkins in the first round? Maybe watch college baseball? (There is such a thing, you know.) Actually do some yardwork? It might get you out of the doghouse with the missus. fwiw we're leaning toward watching Chelsea v Manchester United.

Charlottesville ain't that far. IN fact, I thought it was in the amorphous Washington Post coverage area.

Dan H.--Thanks for the msg.
You are correct, Charlottesville is in the Washington Post coverage area. The problem is that there isn't a men's game in c'ville on *Saturday*. The ACC games are Friday and Sunday.

What about the 50.9 percent of the U.S. population that you don't cover?
The women.

To Er, Uh...
We have covered the women's game more than some other lacrosse blogs. Is it enough? Nope. And we realize that. But we're trying our best.

Speaking of women, the Navy WLAX program is a hell of a story, especially if they win the Patriot League Tournament, which is an outside possibility.
Great job on the Blog!
