Follow-Up on St. Albans-West Genny
The St. Albans lacrosse Web site has an excellent writeup on the win over West Genesee. It actually comes from the West Genny Web site. The box score from the Syracuse paper, such as it is, is here.
And The Post's Alan Goldenbach has written this about the game:
St. Albans made the most of its trip to the Syracuse area this past weekend by coming away with a 6-4 victory over perennial New York powerhouse West Genesee.Senior Matt Miller and sophomore Pat Dougherty scored early goals to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-0 and they led 3-2 at halftime.
After another goal increased the advantage to two, West Genesee - a public school and 14-time New York state champion - rallied to tie. But St. Albans sophomore Jimmy Cahill won the ensuing face-off, led the fast break and found junior Greg McKillop, who scored with around 9 minutes remaining to put the Bulldogs back
in front.Senior Bobby Kingsley added the clincher with 25 seconds left for St. Albans, which moved to 12-3 with the victory. (The Wildcats are 9-2-ed.)
"I think our guys were just ready to play," St. Albans Coach Malcolm Lester said. "We tried not to talk a whole lot about West Genesee or that we took this long trip and had to come out with a certain result."
Must've been a nice win especially for St. Albans senior goalie Guy Van Syckle--he has committed to Johns Hopkins next year, so I imagine he'll be back in upstate New York again in his college career to play Syracuse.
