Game Plan for the Rest of the Week

Apologies for not posting yesterday. Our computer was acting like HAL in the second half of "2001: A Space Odyssey." Though really, it was a strange day all around. We came back from running errands to see that the Liverpool-Arsenal Champions League match (soccer, not lacrosse) was tied at 1-1 midway through the second half.

We jumped in the shower, got out and noticed Liverpool was ahead 2-1. So we turned off the TV and headed into work, clearly ignoring our Magnum PI-like "little voice" that was telling us that Arsenal's Theo Wolcott had a certain look in his eyes...

So yes, we missed the goal by Wolcott that turned the match back into Arsenal's favor...and the Liverpool goal 30 seconds later...and the next Liverpool goal that clinched it. Essentially, yesterday we were the 1962 New York Mets of soccer watching.

But today is a new day. We are headed to Baltimore to talk to Johns Hopkins Coach Dave Pietramala and a couple of players for a story for Friday's paper about the five-game losing streak. We'll update the blog later today with some tidbits from that trip. We also are working on a story about Virginia goalie Bud Petit and his five-year wait to become the starter.

And we're starting work on a story about Marymount midfielder John Hart, a former standout at Mount Vernon High. Anyone in need of a little inspiration will want to read it. It will probably be done by next week.

TFBO2F saw a few goals in Princeton's 14-5 win over Penn last night on CBS College Sports--including six by freshman Jack McBride, a school record for freshmen. That performance let Princeton lacrosse SID Jerry Price use the great headline, "Here Comes the McBride" on his postgame story.

A good day all around for Princeton lacrosse--Georgetown Prep senior D Mike Flanagan played a crucial role in shutting down DeMatha's attack in a 13-5 win yesterday. (Flanagan has committed to Princeton.)

Also, Syracuse continued its payback tour with a 15-8 win over Cornell last night in Ithaca.

I was an assistant coach for Mt. Vernon a few years back when John Hart was on the team. Great kid. Glad to hear he's back to lacrosse. His coach -- Dale Nalls -- is also a great guy. You should talk to him for the story. He still coaches for the Majors - Anthony

Wolcott's brilliant run set up the second goal for Arsenal but it was, in fact, Adebayor who finished.

And who were you showering with? This blog sounds like it might be getting awesome.

Somehow this got posted over on the other thread, but ask Bud Petit about his time with the Richmond Shock. :-)

"Who were you showering with?" asks McBride, clearly celebrating his six goals against Penn by giving his brain the day off.

So that was you in the bushes with the binoculars?

And Anthony--Thank you very much for the insights on John Hart. We think it's going to be an amazing story--and yeah, we'll deffo get in touch with Coach Nalls. Didn't know you were such a learned lacrosse fan!
