A Stat for Syracuse and Virginia Fans
Syracuse's loss to Colgate in the regular season finale yesterday was bad news: Only once in the history of the NCAA tournament has a team lost its final regular season game and won the national title.
In 1986, North Carolina lost its regular season finale to Virginia, 11-9. It won the national title with a 10-9 victory over Virginia one month later.
The Cavaliers also enter the NCAA tournament with a loss: They fell to Duke in the ACC title game on April 27.
