In the Community

Couple events coming up that people in the lacrosse community should know about.

Landon School is hosting the Seventh Annual Mark's Run on May 10. The 5K race raises money for diabetes research (it raised $45,000 last year, not including a matching gift of $75,000).

The race is named for Mark Ferris, a graduate of Landon and a goalie on Landon's teams in the early 1990s. Ferris died of juvenile diabetes in 1999. At Landon, he was a backup to All-Met Alex Cade and played at Randolph-Macon for one year...

Gonzaga classmates and friends of Erik Kristensen are hosting a golf tournament to raise money for a scholarship fund at the school in his honor. The tournament is May 9 at Andrews Air Force Base. Kristensen, a Navy SEAL, gave his life while defending the country and his SEAL teammates in Afghanistan in 2005.

He was a defenseman on the varsity lacrosse team at Gonzaga, though he later was on the crew team at the Naval Academy.

The scholarship fund pays tuition for the sons of military families (of which Erik was one) to attend Gonzaga. The golf tournament is booked this year, though donations are being accepted and a second annual golf tournament is in the works. The event organizer, Andrew Battaile, has coached lacrosse at Gonzaga for years and continues in that role as head JV coach....

For those who can't make the trip for Foxborough for the men's Final Four on Memorial Day weekend, there will be a watch party in Georgetown at a yet-to-be-determined bar. A nominal cover charge will be charged and donated to breast cancer research.

The event will feature a chance to raise money for a great cause while gathering with other lacrosse fans to watch the games on some monster HD TVs (110" projection TVs, it looks like). We will provide more details on this as they come available. For now, just plan on being in Georgetown for semifinal Saturday.
