"Triangle Interchange" for New Wegmans
Crews broke ground last week on a new interchange at River Creek Parkway and Route 7 that must be completed before construction can begin on Wegmans at the upcoming Village at Leesburg.
The interesting part of this road construction is the "triangle interchange," which will elevate the north-south traffic lanes above Rt. 7. Here is an artist's rendering of the interchange.
According to the developer, "pedestrian and bicycle access will also be provided along all major streets and will connect to existing trails." The interchange will take three building seasons to complete, according to estimates.

Viva Las Wegmans!

I think all supermarkets should be Wegmans. We live 1.5 miles from a Giant and a Bloom and yet we drive 5.5 miles to shop at Wegmans

Outstanding! Another Wegmans - the best food shopping in Northern VA. However, it will be tough for Leesburg to top our bread man, Tony -- YOU WAIT YOU LATE!!!

The interchange will be a godsend. But what is a "building season?" Any season except winter? So will it be done in spring '08, if they start now?

It's not going to be a Harris Teeter?
What on earth has happened? I thought all new grocery stores in Loudoun had to be Harris Teeters.

Nobody can beat the bread man at Dulles! He's part of my weekend routine! Can't wait for Wegman's in Leesburg - should also help to relieve peak crowds at Dulles.

"pedestrian and bicycle access will also be provided along all major streets and will connect to existing trails."
What a total waste of money, time and dare I say, intellect.
Let's all live in a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine, a yellow submarine.

Wow. Wegman's is a serious cult. One mention of said grocery store and the hit count goes nuts. (yes, I've been many a time, so spare me the proselytizing).
What makes this intersection a triange? Are you sure you don't mean diamond, which is a common type of overpass intersection?

The 'Village at Leesburg' is touted by the developer as a traditional main street community - but having a large impersonal grocery store such as Wegman's there is like nothing found on any real main street. It can't duplicate the environment of a group of stores that are more pedestrian friendly. And although Wegman's carries many specialty goods, they are ridiculously overpriced. One can find the same type of goods at the nearest Trader Joe's (in Reston). Their smaller stores are easier/quicker to shop in. Better for the community, better for the customers. Hopefully a Trader Joe's will be open here soon.

Thanks -- glad someone else raised the triangle issue, because I don't have the foggiest idea what's triangular about this.

Bring on the Wegmans!
Saves me a 10 mile drive for groceries!
Say goodbye to the Giant that's across Rt 7 from the site....
You wait...You late...

Two triangles make a diamond. The first part of the interchange going to the Wegmans' shopping center looks to be first, then the part that goes to the new development that will be South of Rt. 7.

I'll give my wife a two-triangle ring for our anniversary!

I have lived in the Leesburg area for approximately 25 years and see no need for ANOTHER grocery store or retail complex. Everyone complains that they want to maintain the rural aspect of our landscape, but they get excited when they hear the word Wegmans. I myself prefer to visit the historic downtown business area because they are all LOCALLY owned and operated. When was the last time that some of you visited these shops? We need to support local industries, not some huge conglomerate that couldn't care less about our area.

Oh my god!! Welcome to Bizarro World, where construction is done before jamming another store into an overcrowded neighborhood. Too bad they won't be able to have a drive-thru pharmacy since it's in Leesburg. Nyet to drive-thrus!!
