Artists of the Six Points Music Festival
This festival, which runs from April 6 through April 8, features over 40 locals bands at several venues across the metropolitan area. Here are a few artists and songs to give you a taste of what you can find at the shows which each feature a headliner and two or three backing bands for a reasonable price.

Shane Hines & the Trance
This band plays everything from sleepy singer/songwriter melodies to hard, driving rock to make you jump up and down pounding your first in the air. Between the powerful guitar and the strength and honesty of Hines's vocals, they have attracted a widespread local following.

Michael Jantz - "Roam (Motionless Tonight)"
Jantz is an acclaimed singer-songwriter who spent years playing on the streets of cities around the world. He has opened for the Black Crowes, Ben Harper, B.B. King, and Paul Simon among many others. His emotional vocals and thoughtful lyrics leave us haunted and hungry for more.

Sol - "Tribute to Gabe (Cool John version)"
Sol is a bluesman from northern Virginia who incorporates funk, blues, jazz, and hip-hop elements into his music. He has opened for B.B. King and Robert Randolph & the Family Band. Sol has toured internationally and participated in a number of blues festivals around the world.

Army of Me - "Bloodshot Room"
Army of Me, previously known as Cactus Patch, is a local foursome who have been playing thoughtful alternative rock since the musicians were teenagers. Their songs touch upon issues of politics, religion, love and war, and their interesting rhythms keep us on our toes. The sound you find in the beginning of a song could go through several changes by the time you reach the end so these guys never get boring.

JunkFood - "Carnival"
Voted "Best Local Band" in the 2005 Washington Post Reader's Guide, JunkFood will be sure to attract a large crowd Friday night. With hooks that we can sing along with after one listen and howling guitars at every turn, it's bound to be a fun show.

Emmet Swimming - "The Dance"
This Fairfax group plays straightforward rock with catchy choruses and driving beats. The quartet has toured up and down the east coast, particularly in 2003 to promote the release of their latest album, "Bathing in the New Economy." Emmet Swimming shared a bill with the Dave Matthews Band and won 14 Washington Area Music Awards.

The Echoes - "Ordinary Girl"
Anthony Fiacco leads this three person band in performances around the District and northern Virginia as they promote their 2005 album, "Streetwalker EP." Their original pop songs evoke emotion with blues and traditional rock influences. Look for a new record to be released this spring.

The Dance Party - "Victory Will Break Your Heart"
This track by the Dance Party has an 80s Modern English feel, with sharp rhythm guitar keeping the beat and vocals that send us back. The Prince George's County quartet released their self-titled album in February of this year, and their catchy melodies and intense energy have been attracting a growing local following.

Brindley Brothers - "Playing with the Light"
This District band plays pop/rock tunes that give us a Goo Goo Dolls or Wallflowers vibe. The lead vocals are smooth and catchy and help to explain the widespread popularity the Brindley Brothers have achieved in the area. They were recently voted favorite local band by the listeners of Z104.1.

The Speaks - "Life's a Joke"
This hard-rocking five piece band has gained a lot of attention recently and began distributing their independently produced record internationally in 2005. With lead vocals reminiscent of Scott Stapp crossed with Eddie Vedder, and loud guitars and catchy hooks to get the audience singing along, The Speaks fits right in with the other performers in the Six Points Music Festival.

Monopoli - "Love"
Monopoli has only been around for about two years, and they have already attracted quite a following. "Love" exhibits the dreamy lead vocals of singer and guitarist Alfonso Velez. The song ends with confusion of backwards reels reminiscent of the Beatles, but the smooth, emotional vocals have a Coldplay feel. After such a short time playing together, this band has a lot of potential to grow even better in the future.
No Second Troy - "Galileo's Dream"

Justin Jones - "I'll Do It All"
This singer-songwriter writes touching original lyrics to go along with acoustic guitar and piano. His songs, like "I'll Do It All," tug our heartstrings and have a varied musical texture that keep his soft voice and instruments interesting. Born in the Shenandoah Valley and transplanted to the District, he combines homegrown country and blues influences to create a sound of his own.

Mike Holden - "Help Me Sleep (Live at 9:30 Club)"
Holden performs original folk/rock songs that exhibit his ear for a catchy melody and his talent for writing original lyrics. We found his music even more impressive after learning that he picked up the guitar for the first time only a few years ago after graduating from college. He tours up and down the east coast and helped to found the Six Points Music Festival.
