Cool Reggae-Rock for the Summer
I admit it's hard for me to come up with one of those generalizing labels to describe Poloticks. This Northern Virginia group, however, prides themselves on their unnamable style. I agree with them - their lack of a single, concrete genre is what gives them their one of a kind sound. This track, "Back to the Basics," has situated itself comfortably between rock and reggae. The track is mellow, yet moving, complemented by smooth, light feeling vocals. All of their songs are completely different, drawing from other styles of music, though a rock basis seems to be the linking characteristic. Their wide appeal and musical versatility got them an opening spot for Al Green, The Roots, and Lauryn Hill earlier this month in Florida. You can check them out at Jammin' Java this Sunday, July 23rd.
